Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Not much help here since I haven't managed to put out the purple cloth I bought for Lent in the last two years

But I did want to mention you can get a clear plastic/vinyl in a tablecloth width.. so that you could put it over a tablecloth and not increase your laundry.

So you decided to not to color your own, Jennifer?

I remember the tutorial - I loved it! I have the tutorial bookmarked and I considered it. I kept planning and planning and then I finally just gave in and ordered a set because I just don't have one concentrated length of time to devote to dyeing the silks with the baby. I can just see me turning my back on a bowl of red dye with the 3yo "helping" Just a couple of days ago I got distracted by an explosive poopy and left my coffee cup on the table. Guess who drank it and didn't nap that day... I still want to dye my own (translation: S. really wants to dye more silks for PLAY) and we hope to use the tutorial! Maybe by the end of the summer or in the fall when the baby (wishful thinking here ) takes a long nap in the afternoons.

I do like that "Sarah's silks" have a very rich, deep color. So the red is a very beautiful vibrant red (not pinkish at all) for feasts of the martyrs, etc. Same with the green - it's a true emerald green.

It is very clever to have them in liturgical colors.

So you decided to not to color your own, Jennifer?

For anyone who is interested in coloring your own, it can be done super easily for about a third of the price. We discussed it around Christmas and I linked to a tutorial. It was with the kool-Aid dye, but other commercial dyes could be used (like RIT) where you would be able to choose a wider color palette.

I loved this tutorial (I love all your ideas, Mary!), and was so tempted, too. But I balked at the idea of playsilks for boys. I admit it. If Maryan's husband says it's okay, then I could probably convince dh.

But now with a liturgical usage of the silks, well that horse of many different colors! I looked at all the color wheels for Koolaid, and think I would definitely have to use the RIT for the bold colors of the liturgical wheel. But that unfortunately doesn't allow ds to get involved in the project! I need a rich red and a deep purple!

What we did so that we could use a table cloth for the liturgical colors was to buy a piece of glass to fit our table. It was a bit pricy but I'm so glad we did it. I think it was about $100 for the glass but I just leave the table cloth on underneath and change it with the season. I don't change though just for martyr feast days. Too time consuming to take it off and put it on for just one day. The table cloth does get a little dirty around the edges from the messy eaters but for the most part I can keep it on there until the season changes.
