This really fun thread that Maryan started made me think about those of us who usually drink tea! How do you take your tea? Black, with sugar, with cream, with both, with lemon or mint? Do you usually have to add hot water once it's brewed or do you like it really strong? Hot, iced, or both?

And what's your favorite kind?

I take my tea black with sugar--no cream. I don't usually add lemon, but don't mind if I order an iced tea at a restaurant and there's a slice of lemon in it. (But I HATE presweetened iced tea--it's always too sweet!)

Even though it's so hot here in Texas I never drink iced tea first thing in the morning--it has to be hot. I don't like Lipton or strong black teas (like Irish or English Breakfast), but I love Earl Grey, Chai Spice, and Bigelow's Constant Comment.

So how do you take your tea?

I usually drink coffee in the morning, but when I drink tea hot in the morning I like Irish Breakfast, black.

If I have hot tea in the evening, I like spicy tea like chai (with half and half and sugar) or the Christmasy spicy teas that come out in December, black.

For iced tea any old tea will do, unsweetened. I cannot bear "sweet tea". Ordering tea in the south and taking a big slug of sweet tea without thinking...oh the thought makes me shudder.

I love strong British tea - I have it brought over from England by friends or family. I drink it with milk and sometimes when feeling tired or unwell with milk and honey or milk and blackstrap molasses. I drink 3-4 mugs a day - caff in the morning, decaff in the afternoon.

Sweet. As sweet as I can get it, and not have poured simple syrup in it (altho that has occurred to me before, lol)...

Of hot/iced, I prefer Iced, hands down (comes from being a GRITS, I suppose.

LOL

I usually drink coffee (with cream) in the morning but when I feel like having tea, it is black and strong with nothing added. I also like my iced tea black and strong with no sweetner. I used to get the strangest looks at Starbucks when I ordered it like that but now the girl who works there knows how I like it.

I can drink the occational green tea.. jasmine is my favorite.. lightly sweet.

And I just tried Good Earth's White Tea: Vanilla blend and it was very nice.

I can't drink any of the stronger black teas or the like (same as I can't drink coffee)

Plus I basically can't have caffiene (the caffiene in the green tea is low enough that as long as it's only one cup and only occational it's ok)

I have always liked tea. When we were kids, my mom would give us tea and toast when we were sick. I used to like it with milk and sugar, but now I prefer herbal teas of all kinds. Due to our teatimes that we started this past year, I now have a few other tea-lovers in my house. They mostly enjoy the fruit teas. I also enjoy iced tea in the summer (in addition to hot tea ).

But in spite of all this, my day still gets started with "leaded" coffee and one of my favorite creamers.

Love tea. Iced tea is my favorite, and I like it sweet. Very sweet.

I also love chamomile (that I will drink with no sugar..), oh, and chai tea.

No milk. Just lots of sugar.

Don't really like green tea.

I got a sampler pack from Adagio at Christmas, so I have a bunch of samples of all different kinds. I loved that!

Milk and sugar in Chai only. Otherwise I generally drink herbal teas (okay they aren't even technically teas - they are herbal infusions) and I drking those without anything. Like them both hot or iced.

I am normally a coffee drinker (real cream and sugar!) in the morning and love a good iced tea (sweetened the Southern way) in the afternoon.

But, this pregnancy, I can't even stomach decaff in the mornings and have switched to PG Tips with half a teaspoon of organic sugar and a good splash of milk. It calms my stomach and is the only tea that has been able to do that!

I drink it whenever the nausea gets too bad--of course, with the summer heat here in Texas, I have to sit still under the ceiling fan or I will break out in a sweat sipping my toasty tea! The kids think I'm nuts.

For those of you in Texas, have you tried Sweetleaf Mint and Honey? It's delicious and oh so refreshing! But don't try the diet version, it's disgusting!

With regular old lipton tea bags... milk and sugar (definitely not cream or half and half.)

With herbals... nothing or with honey!!

My favorite?? Probably peppermint herbal tea -for the smell.

And confession: I have no clue what chai is.

And... I only drink herbal teas when I'm pregnant!

I am addicted to Tazo Decaf Chai Tea. I actually prefer the taste of tea to coffee. I don't have to put as much sugar in it; usually just a spoonful and a splash of milk or fat-free half and half. If I am feeling decadent, maybe a dollop of whipped cream on top. It is like Pumpkin Pie in a cup!

I also enjoy a very calming combination of Peppermint and Tension Tamer (one bag of each in a big mug brewed together).

As far as iced tea goes, it has to be slightly sweetened and I prefer mine brewed with either peach or peppermint for flavoring. When my husband and I were first married, he couldn't understand why I always brewed my ice tea. He thought tea came from a powder. He has thoroughly converted to my brewed ways now!

When people talk about chai tea, it means tea with some spices in it, usually including cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger (but can also have allspice, nutmeg, cloves, star anise, etc, depending on the recipe.) It usually is sweetened (often with honey) and has milk in it. It is very yummy.

little bit of trivia: "chai" is actually just the Hindi word for "tea".

I love Constant Comment on a balmy winter afternoon. Chai is good too. I love plain ole Lipton iced tea, sunbrewed thank you. Rita Munn got me started on Tazo teas a few years ago - I haven't met one I didn't like. These days, I'm filling my water bottle with half ice, half RRL tea, and a squeeze of lemon, to keep me cool.

I also am a morning coffee drinker, but switch to tea after noon.
I like it very strong, decaf, with a little milk and sugar (probably would be "one lump" if you are talking cubes )
I really like English breakfast tea (Twinings,) regular decaf (Lipton,) and Lemon Zinger (Celestial Seasonings.)

During Thanksgiving and Christmas, I am always eager to pick up one of the neat holiday teas.

I also like iced tea, but not "sweet tea." It is just a tad too sweet for me. I do add a tiny bit of sugar and two slices of lemon.

God Bless,

Yorkshire Tea, from Taylor's of Harrogate, is my favorite, with milk but no sugar. Since I've been back in the US, I generally favor Twinings English Breakfast, with milk and no sugar.

Boringly, I have exactly the same rules for my tea as for my coffee: as minimalist as it gets without being actually straight black.

But I do like chai, now that I think of it. About twice a year I spring for a chai latte at Starbucks to treat myself. During Lent I tend to branch out more in my tea-drinking, because coffee is one of the things we always give up in our house.

In the summer we also make iced versions of various Celestial Seasonings Zinger teas: Black-Cherry-Berry Zinger is our favorite for iced. We drink it either unsweetened or with a tiny bit of sugar. Trying to wean all of us off a too-strong family sweet tooth.

Oh, and for special occasions in the summer I make this delicious orange-mint tea: you boil a big handful of fresh mint with sugar and water, so that you're essentially making a mint/sugar reduction/syrupy thing. Mix that with orange juice and some water (I forget exact measurements, and my cookbooks are packed). Serve over ice with more sprigs of fresh mint. It is to die for, here in the muggy South.
