Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Going by the choice of books you've shared your son has exactly the same taste in reading as my ds13. So hard to find books that we deem appropriate in that genre. However I REALLY recommend The Ranger's Apprentice Series by John Flanagan (this link gives you a really cheap place to buy them)

Angela, I thank you for this recommendation, and second it for anyone out there. My 14-y-o son and i devoured all four in a weekend, and my 12-y-old daughter now loves them, too. (took her a few weeks). I have 50 literature homeschool students, and there is currently lots of bargaining going on amongst them for borrowing privileges from my personal library(for some reason, several of my students' parents REFUSE to take them to the library or order them books...so sad).

I think they are a perfect series for the kids who are too old for (or have already read) Lloyd Alexander's High King Series, but aren't ready for (or already enjoyed) Tolkien. They are clean, inspiring, exciting. My only regret is that only the 1-4th are EASILY and AFFORDABLY available in the US.

Definitely worth the effort. Thanks again for sharing!

For a LOTR lover, I recommend Stoneholding by Mark James. (Originally published as The Flight to Hollow Mountain) Catholic author, friend of Michael O'Brien. My sons have read it twice. It's the first of a trilogy (?), or at least will have a sequel that isn't out yet, so that 's a bit frustrating. But it is VERY well written and with Catholic undertones.

Well I have patiently waited till the book was available for an affordable price and now I'm confused. It seems to be already available and yet this link says '173' days to go??
