...I need to find. I don't anticipate allowing this baby to sleep without being held, I have been reading all the baby sling posts. I have tried Maya and OTSBH, neither are great options for me. Please tell me, for long term wearing, ie ALL DAY, what carrier would you invest in?

And once you love your moby and your baby starts to feel a bit heavy for it, I love my woven wraps for all day sleeping babies.
Actually, I would say that a woven is more comfy even from day one, but the stretchy is somewhat more forgiving for someone first learning to use a wrap. Plus, I wore my last baby on my back in a woven from the second week on, and it was wonderful!

I was on a weekend retreat. I brought my hefty 5 1/2 month old, and there was another mother who had her 5 month old. He was much smaller than my guy. But I was so impressed with how she wore him all weekend in her Moby. She kept the Moby on all day, and just put him in and out in the various carrying positions.
It's such a selling point for a carrier when you see it used so effectively and easily!

Molly, If you can afford it, I would suggest a MOBY for the first months, then a woven wrap for when girlie gets heavier! :) With having to tend to other children, you may especially find back carries condusive for all day wearing. I wear my baby's 24/7 for the first 6 months or so, but this is really only possible with being able to carry them on my back. A MOBY is perfect (I have one I can send ya if you want it!) early on, but heavier babies (esp. with back carries) need something more supportive.

Moby D gives you stretchy with a woven panel for extra support. It gets my vote.

I loved my Moby too. I like you can use it in a variety of ways.
On another note, how do you ladies carry your babies all day? With the last two (I was getting close to 40) I was exhausted each and every day if I carried my baby too much. I have low blood sugar and tend to get dizzy if I overdo things. Maybe its just age. Some of you are younger than me. But, unfortunantly, I don't have to worry about carrying a baby all day right now.

My wovens are Didymos. My first woven was an ellaroo which was nice and a good bit cheaper, but I find the didymos to be cushier and less likely to give pressure soreness.
I've tried a few other European wrap carriers that belong to friends, and they are all nice as well. Even the different weaves within the brands can make a difference. I think I prefer my Indio weave didymos to the stripes.

I have to agree with the Moby. I love mine, and I can do just about anything while wearing it, and the baby seems to love it, too.

I'm not nearly as experienced with the Moby as the other ladies here - I got it because I knew Lisa and Molly and Ruth and so many others here really enjoyed it and I couldn't decide between a sling or a more upright sort of carrier. I like to wear the baby in a sling if I know I'll be nursing while walking through the store. I'm just getting the hang of nursing discreetly while wearing Katie in the Moby. I use the Moby exclusively to wear her around the house.
I was sort of intimidated by the *idea* of a wrap. After all, it's really just 7 or 8 yards of stretchy cotton. So I just decided to try a Moby - not a Moby D - at first. I fell in love the minute I put Katie in it - she was 2 days old. It's so stretchy and soft! No buckles or snaps. She still prefers the Moby - it's so secure and snug for wee ones, and I like that I can wrap her really snug or a little looser as she gets better motor control. You can be completely hands free. And it's the only carrier that doesn't hurt my back after wearing the baby all day. I think because their weight is distributed throughout the copious amount of fabric wound around your body.
I plan to order a Moby D eventually. HTH, Molly! Good luck deciding!

My baby is 6 months old and quite a little chunk. Lisbet, when you say that heavier babies need something more supportive like a woven wrap, what exactly would I be looking to purchase? This is all new to me! My baby lives in her sling right now but it's starting to break my back and I think her legs might be starting to become uncomfortable all squished up in the sling. KWIM?

Okay I'm convinced. I've always worn the usual over the shoulder sling from the local baby store. But I get sore and quit using it.
Where would you ladies recommend to purchase a Moby?

Kacky, There's a mom that belongs to my parish that sells Mobys (and other stuff) from Abby's Lane. She can even let you try a Moby out (if you pay postage back and forth). Just my preference to keep my money local for things like this, when I have choice. (ETA: She and her dh are also Seton grads)

Okay, I looked at the Moby site and I have a question. Don't you get hot?? All that fabric plus the heat the baby puts out, I'm sweating thinking about it!!

Different carries can be done when it is really hot. I strap carry works well when it is particularly hot. (basically you don't spread the fabric out as much or at all - using the wrap as a 'strap' rather than a wrap, kwim?)

Oh my goodness! Is that Stephanie? I just bought my diapers from her (at Abby's Lane) and she's so sweet and helpful! What a small world - I didn't know she was Catholic.

Okay Jenn...you are way influencing my life with her website. I'm so excited she lives SO close and she is having a local open house "Cloth 101". This isn't on topic, but...I've been wondering about cloth diapers and this looks like the best chance at finding out more! Thanks for her link!
Even if I don't go for the cloth (there will be some dh convincing to do  ) I'll be getting a Moby there. It'll be nice to see the colors in person too!

I don't do back carries, at least not with a wrap. The Moby D is plenty of support for a bigger baby on front. My two year old still likes to get in it when the baby is not.
I don't really think it gets too hot, at least not in VA.
The Moby is fairly easy to nurse in with a new baby in a cradle hold. It takes a little manuevering with a bigger baby.
I bought my Moby from Mom4Life. She has free shipping, gives 10% to a crisis pregnancy center and has a great return policy. She also has a pretty good sling comparison chart.
Lisa (LLMom), I find it getting harder to do the all day thing, too. Must be age! After three hours at a baseball game of chasing the two year old while wearing my 20 lb baby and I am beat the next day. It used to be no big deal. The Moby does make it easier because it does all the work, but I am still exhausted.
