Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Martha started a baby boy Biblical name thread. I'd love to talk boy saints names

We are expecting baby number eight in September and have no idea of a boy's name. Simply put we have exhausted the ones we agree on.

Our criteria is a saints name and fairly unusual, their middle names are more Catholic 'evergreen'.

So far we have:
Dominic Francis
Xavier Michael
Malachi Joseph
Saxon Patrick

now we both like Benedict and Ignatius but really worry about them being shortened (did I mention we don't shorten names ) So that is why Saxon didn't end up with either of them. I also like Kolbe and Jerome dh doesn't. He tends to like Latin type names (can't you tell) he doesn't like Gallic names much, whilst I do.

Oh and we are not keen on another M name as we already have two.

For interest sake the girls are:
Chiara Marie
Mariah Therese
Genevieve Rose

Are we a hopeless case? Can anyone help?

How about Vianney (after the Cure of Ars) I think it is a saints surname that would make the loveliest Catholic boys name.

Molly I like Aquinas! So many Catholic colleges use saints surnames, I think why not parents?

We have a Siena, and our friends have a Cabrini.

I love Isadore, that was my grandfathers name, but dh says it is not a name, it is a sentence

If Kateri had been a boy, I was really hoping the name would have been Ambrose Paul. I love those names, as well as the saints that go with them!

Our boys are:

Samuel(his middle name is my maiden name)
Noah Steven(my dh's spelling)
Joseph Stanley(dh's dad)
Peter Augustine
Christopher James

Jen

P.S. Dh really liked Paul Aloyisus(sp?.

also...

Simon, or Simeon
Alexander

Keep them coming I love lots of the names you have suggested and I think even dh will

Anne, Please do go on I love all those names.

Molly, Sienna Caeli is our choice for a girl. (at least until we change our minds)

Jennifer I love Kateri but how is it meant to be pronounced.

Laura,
I love Gabriel for a boy but dh fixed me there. When we lost our baby at 18 weeks gestation he quickly suggested Gabrielle d'Angelique which is gorgeous but there went my chance for a Gabriel. He just smiles whenever I accuse him of being sneaky.

How about considering the name Gabriel as part of this baby's name.. Naming the baby after one of your own saints. We too lost two baby boys, delivered at 18 weeks and 16 weeks. Now we are expecting again and we are leaning (if this is a boy) towards naming this baby after the brothers in heaven:
Luke Dominic (16 weeks)(his hand and feet are under my username at the left)
Mark Alexander (18 weeks)

This baby if it is a boy, Dominic Alexander

Okay, we don't pronounce Kateri the way it is meant to be pronounced. Well, the kids and I do at home, but dh is adamant that we call her Ka-tee-ree in public. I believe the actual pronunciation is something like Gaul-de-lee, I can't remember for sure. I have seen it, and we've read several stories of her life. But dh is worried that the true pronunciation is too far out for most people. We already get nasty comments from people about her name, which really frosts me! So, I'm not really sure about the correct pronunciation, although at one time I knew it exactly. Sorry, long explanation. I love our daughter's name, and I am just shocked at the rudeness of a lot of people who think it is "weird." So maybe that makes it seem like not such a great name to use. Hmmm...

My dh briefly had an idea that we should name all of our children after the saints in the Roman Canon. The girl names aren't all odd: Felicity, Perpetua, Agatha, Lucy, Agnes, Cecilia, Anastasia (actually, we think we lost a twin to our dd early on and we named her Anastasia).

Some of the more unusual boy names from the Roman Canon: Marcellinus, Matthias, Barnabas, Linus, Cletus, Clement, Sixtus, Cornelius, Cyprian, Chrysogonus, Cosmas, Damian. He especially liked Chrysogonus and thought we could call him Soggy for short. He was kidding. I hope. But maybe some of those names will inspire you.

Susan

I knew a family that had a Romanus (they called him Roman) and another that thought about using the name Campion (for St. Edmund Campion). I am not sure if they ever did. I like the idea of using saintly surnames! It gives you more to choose from!

You can also look into cultural variations of names. We have a Zane which is on Old English form of the name "John". Other variations would be Ian, Sean, Ivan, Jan, or Giovanni.

I forgot to ask... where did "Saxon" come from. I am not familiar with that name as a first or last name.

I also wanted to say that I loved all of the unusual suggestions in this thread. I have often joked to my husband that we better have girls from here on out because I am terrible with boys names. I am amazed that we came up with two whole names without having to resort to empty initials (you know... like Harry S. Truman. You gals have inspired me so I say... bring on the boys!

Hey trish, I have a Brendan and Gabriel too! I love Aquinas and Vianney for middle names, and we have friends who have a Thomas More.

Other names we have kicked around are Becket, Justus, Jude, Julien, Crispin, Killian, Ciarin.

I love Ambrose, Augustine, and Matthias too.

Xavier is really cute too. We have an acquaintance who has a Maximus Xavier.

I think we could write our own unique Catholic name book ladies!

OK, but you have to spell it with one N, like the city not the color

Our Siena, is Siena Catherine! And we have friends with Caeli, beautiful name!

We have used Cornelius as a middle name.

We have considered Ignatius. That is my oldest sons confirmation name. We know though, that in our family, it would be shortened to something goofy like Iggy something. (Although Nate or Natius wouldn't be too bad.)

Mark Benedict was initially going to be Benedict (Michael for a middle name) but the children were calling him "Benny" and I didnt' dig it with our last name. .Worked out good though!

I love David. Caleb. Hmmm, I'm sure there are others!
