Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Oh, Thanks Joann! I just read this book to my six years old two nights ago. We loved it, so many connections to make.
Thankfully our library has a lot of Patricia Polacco's books, even the video.
Thanks again Cay!

You, dear readers, have another week to relax with your children and visit the world of picnics, general stores, a fancy hotel in Memphis, and a family farm in Michigan.

You, dear readers, still have time to enjoy another week in Gramma's backyard catching fireflies, painting Pysanky eggs around the table, and boat riding for an adventure..

Patricia Polacco has given us this rich and beautiful world. Enjoy it with your children.

At the Author Fiesta website, there is now a
Research Sheet for your child(ren) to research and fill out on author/illustrator Patricia Polacco then insert in his/her Author Fiesta binder.

It's not too late for us to join ghe Author Fiesta, is it?   I found out about it late in the game -- this week.

I guess we'll have some catching up to do, because we don't want to miss Patricia Polacco. Do you think catching up is possible? I know June's author is right around the corner.

Also...I know I need to add Author Fiesta as a category on our blog, and on my sidebar, correct? Linkable to the Author Fiesta site? How do I go about properly getting the Logo?

I'm all excited for the kids and ME!!!

And Laura, we're excited to have you and your children joining us.

Never too late. Never!
That's why I decided to put the authors on their own site. Anyone can start at any time. If you want to spend two months on Patricia Polacco, you are welcome to do so and the other authors and files will still be there waiting for you whenever you are ready.

I've already discerned that, due to my own commitments and time-restraints that there will be some "fireside" months (ie: for catching up on authors we missed and want to cover without feeling we're missing out on the "new" author).

So jump in whenever you can. The fires will still be burning in the hearth and the authors will still be waiting for your visit.

No, you do not want to miss her. I think her books are worth spending the whole summer doing. We read lots of her books a couple years ago when "Thunder Cake" got us going and it's been a pleasure to rediscover some that we hadn't read yet.

The "fireside" months can also be used to rediscover the authors we loved but didn't get around to completing (and to read their newer books).

Laura,
All you need to do is start an Author Fiesta category on your blog so you can show us the ideas and activities and projects your children do in their Author Fiesta studies. I'll take that permalink and insert it in the Author Fiesta Friends' sidebar.

The logo of the bookworm is one my mother found on the clipart software that came with the purchase of her computer. What do they call it? I can't remember.

Anyway, feel free to use it to link your family and friends to the Author Fiesta.

Hope this answers all (most) of your questions.

THANK YOU Cay! That does answer all of my questions, and has us even MORE excited! PERFECT all the way around!

I will contact you through the Author Fiesta web site once my blog is all set up, so you can add us/our blog as participants to the sidebar as you requested.

I want to assure anyone wanting to do the Author Fiesta and join in the sidebar that it is not necessary to "show" us what you do (or don't do ) every month.

There are some months, such as this one, when there are graduations and other family happenings that keep you from "doing" much of anything other than "reading" the books.

And that's okay. That's really the whole concept of this Fiesta. Just read!

If you can take it further (Joann is really awesome at doing this ), then we'd love to see and hear about it. But don't feel as though you are failing if all you do is "read".

Reading is the whole key. It's the "map" to your child's own adventure.

Children know when we "contrive" too much. At least my children do. Not so much the younger ones as the older ones.

You are there to help them explore. But turning over the key, map and flashlight to them is half the fun.

The sheets I'm offering make it "do-able" to allow your child to gain a basic knowledge and appreciation of the author/artist and his/her works.

It also gives your child a nice portfolio of all the authors/artists he/she will read as a reminder.

Again, don't feel you have to blog about it every single month (though I personally love to see the blog posts. I mean I've really, really, really, really enjoyed seeing everyone's .)

I just don't want that to feel like an obligation to joining. You aren't obligated to me or anyone else. Just to your child.

Author Fiesta should be an easy, enjoyable part of your month. And if Joann (mother of 10) can do it...Hey! anyone can do it!

Enjoy!

Wonderful, Laura.
I was typing "again" while you were posting.
Glad I was able to answer your questions.

Thanks Cay!

Just some things to share and to thank you again for starting this

- yesterday I had a doctor's appt - when I came back I found my dd (11) had taken all the Polacco books we have and made copywork in Startwrite for herself and her brothers.

- my husband was late home last night - so when we had had dinner and baths - we all piled into my bed, baby to 11 year old and had a Patricia Polacco pyjama party

- there is frantic guesswork going on in my house about who the June author is going to be!!

I have been wanting to post links to the author fiesta on my blog - but just not got to it

I just had to share that yesterday we read Emma Kateand my daughter Grace-6 was so excited about the surprise ending that she waited at the window for 45 minutes for her Daddy to get home. When he got home she ran outside with the book yelling "Daddy, read this to me and you will get a BIG surprise!!"

Before we move on to the June author, I encouraged participants to have their children write about a favorite family memory since our May author is known for her observance of family:The Best of Patricia Polacco

Joann blogged (with photos) and shared a couple of her children's story:A Family Story

Seamus' Story

Thank you, Joann. What a delight!

If anyone else wants to share their children's stories, please let me know. We'd all love to read them. I'm hoping to post our stories tomorrow.
