Well, we're home, and dd is doing well (in pain of course, but coping).
The surgery was not very successful- when the doctor got inside, he was surprised to find a lot of interior scarring and general 'muck' that he wasn't expecting. In his words, "it's a really crummy eye." He wasn't able to get anywhere near the tissue he wanted to zap, so did what he could in other areas. Her artificial lens implant got knocked around a bit, but thankfully stayed in place.
We go back tomorrow to get the bandages off and to make sure the bleeding has stopped, then we'll do a few days of antibiotic and steroid drops and go back again to check her pressure.
The doctor says he won't even consider another surgery- if this doesn't work, then that's it. He *could* repeat the surgery with a different (more difficult) entry point, but he just doesn't want to put her through yet another surgery when the outcome looks so bleak. He says it just about breaks his heart when he sees what a sweet, happy girl she is during office visits, then thinks about how awful she feels after a surgery (she doesn't tolerate anesthesia well).
Thank you for your prayers.

Oh, Lori! Not the news I was hoping to hear! Dd sounds like such a trooper, and it sounds like you have a very caring, compassionate doctor. Praying for dd through this post-op time.

I'm so sorry, Lori. Praying that Our Dear Lord will offer great comfort to you and your daughter and that He will point you to the good that He wants to bring out of this situation!

The doctor was very pleased with how Dd's eye looks today- bleeding has stopped, and swelling is not too bad. Her pressures are the lowest they've ever been, but it's probably temporary until the tissue heals (we can at least stop the glaucoma meds for now, though we have lots of steroid, antibiotic and dilating drops for the next week or so).
She is still in quite a bit of pain, and very sensitive to light.
We go back Monday for another pressure check, so appreciate continuing prayers.
Thank you all.

Oh, Lori....we'll keep praying....I'll remind my little guy...he was very empathetic. Your dd is a very brave girl! (and you are one of my Sisters in Chaos!! I posted about this in the special needs section...but don't ask me to link it, I am horrible at that!!)
Many prayers!!!

Lori, I cried when I read your Thursday update. It breaks my heart to see these young ones in such pain and enduring such trials. May Our Lord grant that the pressures in your daughter's eye will remain low even after the swelling goes away. I can imagine the scar tissue issue and surprise. Even after one surgery in each eye, my son had a lot of scar tissue that made a second surgery more difficult. May Our Lord lighten this cross for you all and bring your daughter healing! Of course we continue to prayer for her.

Thank you, everyone.Monday's appointment went well- Dd's pressures were up two points, but are still good.
We go back again next Wednesday for another pressure check and to review her meds and see if she can go off of some.
I'm going to bother you for more prayers- Dd's fabulous doctor is leaving the hospital to take over as Chief of the pediatric unit of Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. No-one has yet been hired to replace him, so we will be in limbo for a while with other doctors at the hospital seeing her. It's very unsettling for her since she is so shy and takes so long to warm up to new doctors.
Thank you.
