Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thursday's update:

Bandages came off this morning, and things look good! No signs of infection, not too much swelling, and the drain stayed in place. Poor baby is on a pretty intense regimen of meds for a while, but otherwise is feeling almost back to normal (though still walking like a drunken sailor ).

Great moment from today: very gruff and rough-looking neighbour bringing dd a very fluffy stuffed bunny and hoping that she was feeling better. You can't get more out of character than that.

Thank you again, everyone!

I've been bad at updating, but my online time has been very limited lately (sorry).

Dd's pressures after her Ahmed surgery back in April have been fluctuating wildly, and we have had to add back in every med she was on before, plus atropine (to help her eye keep it's shape, since she has no pupil) and two anti-inflammatories. We're up to 16 drops/ meds a day and her pressures are now through the roof again.

Her Dr. gave us two options (that we will consider- the third we nixed right away ::shudder:: ):

1. Do nothing and let the eye die (she has no vision in her affected eye, so that is not an issue)

Pro: no more surgery- she's had enough (19)
Con: she would potentially have to stay on her meds for years until the eye dies (including the oral med that they use to fight altitude sickness- horrible, horrible stuff); if we stopped all of her meds the eye would die faster, but she would be in enormous pain (like when she was a baby and would scream herself into convulsions)

2. Endoscopic laser (a long needle with a camera and laser on the end that kills the tissue that produces the fluid)

Pro: could lower her pressures to the point where she could stop some of her meds
Con: yet another surgery (she is more stressed that she will miss two of her hockey games than that she'll be having surgery- she's a goalie ;-)

We have chosen to go with the laser, and surgery will be next Thursday. She is asking again for prayers to Saint Lucy, as this is really the absolute last chance she has to keep her eye.

Thanks everyone,
the Barrés

We're keeping your daughter, her doctors and all of you in our prayers, Lori! I will especially have my 7yo son pray. He's had 2 surgeries in each eye, and as I've said before, I cannot even imagine the stress and pain of going through 19.

May Our Lady intercede for you all, and may the Holy Spirit guide the surgeon's hands in order to save your daughter's eye! May you all have peace and strength as you wait and go through Thursday.

Thank you, everyone.

Surgery is tomorrow morning at 8AM, though we have to leave at 4:30 to be at the hospital in time for check-in

Dd's spirits are good, and she says 'thank you' to everyone (I've read all of the comments on the thread to her).

Praying, Lori, I'll have my seven year old ds praying for her....he's had a dozen surgeries....and can relate.

May God hold you tomorrow...and guide the surgeons hands for a successful outcome.
