Paula, my heart is breaking with you  . I am so sorry...so so sorry. I also know that these types of initial decisions are painfully common. (I worked in domestic violence and saw the injustice of our justice system first hand...my dh offered professional witness services to mothers and their children stuck in painful custody battles and eventually gave up the work out of frustration.) Your lawyer is correct, you need to keep battling (I'm SO sorry.) Please do look at this as if you are in the middle of a long and painful battle, but it is the middle and NOT the end! God's plans are so much bigger than any bias a judge has or any money a petitioner has or any skill a petitioner's lawyer has. And God can handle us collapsing before Him and begging for peace. Bring your rightfully broken and weary heart to Him, our Holy Mother, our friends here, and to those who love you...refuel...then get back to your work as the mother of your beautiful child. I know that battling the justice system isn't the work that you would have chosen and it is so unjust, yet you will receive the grace you need because you are saying *yes* to mothering and *yes* to God's big plan. Oh gosh...I'm just going to let myself cry
We are in the middle of His great story. The end of His great story is Love beyond our greatest hope and understanding. Between here and there is suffering. Jesus I trust in you.

I am so sorry, Paula! I will pray for real justice to be done with the appeal.
Aside from how unfair this is to you as the Mom who has loved and cared for him all along, I have to wonder what kind of an idiotic system thinks it's OK for a young child to split his time between two different homes each and every week???  And I've never heard of only one parent being allowed every weekend. It makes no sense! So I think there's real hope that another judge will completely turn this around.
