Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

"Q Mr. President, final question.
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, sir.

Q You said, famously, when you looked into Vladimir Putin's eyes you saw his soul.
THE PRESIDENT: Yes.

Q When you look into Benedict XVI's eyes what do you see?
THE PRESIDENT: God.

Yes, ( again). Dh and I have discussed this many times. We were quite moved.

I haven't heard that rumor, but I have been thinking something similiar after listening to President Bush.

Suzanne,

Here's the link we used to watch the whole time at the White House. Click on US schedule (and I did 500k for a cable modem) ... if there is nothing planned (the next thing Suzanne is 2 p.m. your time) then you'll just get the TV stuff (Fr. Pacwa, etc)....

Hope that helps ....

You should have seen the 3 littles and I, cuddled round my 15" laptop, watching and singing with the bands, etc.... I loved that Pres Bush mentioned how special it was that Pope came on his birthday because "usually you spend your birthday with close friends, and the US would like to be close friends with Vatican" or words to that effect!

Also, for future papal events today and tomorrow, our local FOX station is doing streaming video of their special coverage, so you can see the Popemobile going through the routes. I've been flipping back and forth from EWTN to Fox.

We were watching Fox News on the computer. We watched him arrive at The White House, saw the reception, heard the speeches, and then they sang "Happy Birthday" to the Holy Father. I was tearing up throughout (esp. the birthday part).

I remember watching election returns and seeing an icon of Our Lady in the room. You know, his brother, Jeb, is Catholic.

ETA: I just read the quotation to my children. I made me cry. What a good man!

Jeb is CATHOLIC????? I didn't KNOW THAT!!!! Amazing the things one learns hanging out here!

Thanks, Mary for the explanation.....I suppose they can't broadcast 24 hours a day....live. Even Raymond Ary would run out of things to say... .

I would certainly watch, but know that the cost for EWTN (with no paid commericals) is prohibitive.
I heard Deacon Dan Allen (? on EWTN) asking for help...I think he mentioned it will cost $600,000 to air the footage they've planned.

We just got home from seeing him at the parade from the White House.    It was so great to see him!

Our birthday cake for the Pope is in the oven now. Bratwurst for dinner!

I was so happy that my children were interested in watching today's ceremony on EWTN. We know someone in the Army Fife & Drum Corps, which performed today, and when I also explained that Elizabeth's husband was part of the EWTN staff (go, Mike!), my daughter said, wonderingly, "Wow, Mom, you know EVERYONE!"

I don't know everyone, but I know the greatest bunch of ladies in cyberspace...

You know, I have no idea if President Bush would ever consider converting, but I think it's just wonderful that he feels such a connection to our Holy Father. That goes a long, long, long way. Christians all over will watch TV and hear President Bush's words, and perhaps they will decide that Catholics' beliefs are worth investigating for themselves.

My opinion of our President has risen considerably over the last few days. I hope other people are listening to his sincerely-spoken words and taking another look.

I have 4 kids and a husband that will be seeing Pope in NYC. Two kids at Dunwoodie on Saturday and my husband and 2 other kids at Yankee stadium. We are getting soooo excited.

A few minutes ago my almost three year old looked at a picture of president Bush and the Pope in the newspaper and said, "Hey, I know him, he got off the plane and we ring the bells for him."

We also just had birthday cake after a delious dinner of pork and Bavarian sauerkraut.

I had completely forgotten that Catholic connection! I loved the article Jen linked to. (Had actually opened this thread and immediately thought of linking to it, but then saw Jen beat me to it!)

I cried yesterday when I saw President Bush and the First Lady go to meet our Holy Father at the airport. What a beautiful sight!

Oh, and we had a big celebration dinner last night in honor of Pope Benedict's arrival. But no German food for us. It was steak and garlic mashed potatoes - a favorite that we very seldom have.
