We use vicks with duct tape over them for my son's severe warts. It takes about a week.

Okay...so we've been using the apple cider vinegar on a wart on my son's leg after I read this thread. We did it for about 3 weeks diligently, 2 times a day, with a bandaid. But not too much was happening. Dh thought I was crazy and wanted me to just buy the Compound W at the store. So I have stopped doing anything for a week waiting to get to the store (well waiting to remember to buy it at the store).

Well, starting about 2 days ago, his wart turned white the edges are starting to pull away, but it bleeds a lot. I haven't put anything else on because I didn't know what it was doing, and I well, I can be a wimp, and was afraid the vinegar getting inside there was going to be really painful.

Any ideas what to do next???

Are you absolutely sure it was a wart? Mine turn brown/black within a few days with the ACV or with freezing. I have never experienced what you are describing. Maybe the ACV irritated the skin around the area?

Yep a wart.

But things have been happening...

So after a shower, we dried off the area and is just decided to do the ACV but alot! Before I was rubbing the area with a qtip of ACV and doing the bandaid. I figured maybe I just wasn't doing enough. So used a cotton ball, got the wart really wet, held it on, then bandaided the cotton ball onto the wart. The next day, it was blackish and wasn't as raised as before, and no more blood. To me it now looks scabish. So we have been doing the cotton ball thing for about 2-3 days and the sides are picking up just a bit. So maybe I'm assuming/hoping/praying if we keep this up, it'll fall off like a scab, like what you described!?!?!!!

ok, yes, I see. Yes, you need to keep a piece of cottonball or q-tip that has been soaked in ACV on it for hours at a stretch, not just rub it on --- hold it on with the band aid. I usually just do mine at night, (because I hate wet-band-aid-feeling and mine are on my hands).

My only advice is to try to keep the piece of cotton just the size of the wart itself so that it doesn't irritate the surrounding skin. (Can be difficult when they are tiny little pieces, I know.)

A lot of times mine will get like a hard surface, similar to but different than a scab - often a little brownish.

This is all very hard to try to describe. I hope that it helps....

That sounds right on target. It is hard to make the cotton ball smaller. This will sound bad, but he has had a bandaid on it for so long, that I don't think anything irritates that area anymore!!!!

Thanks for your help!

Kacky,

We experienced bleeding too. I've been very embarrassed not to be able to report back to all you wonderful ladies with such wonderful advice, I've wanted to write and say "It worked!" The truth is I'm not that diligent Anyhow its been a few weeks since I was reasonably diligent (a few days) and then one started bleeding and fell off, now another is doing the same. Strange? Anyhow one down several to go.

Not to change the subject from ACV, but I just read in my home medical book that banana peels work well for removing warts. Ds has one on his toe that we are "experimenting" on with this banana peel remedy. We just started last night, so not much to report yet.

God bless,
Christine

I haven't used the banana peel trick but my sister the RN did on her daughter with good success. She also did the duct tape. I need to try it on my daughter (8yo) too. She also has the monoluscum (sp?) virus bumps right now, as well. It's been very persistent and hasn't gone away so I'm going to get her a referral to a dermatologist this week unless someone can give me a home remedy...?

Thought I'd let you all know that I finally got rid of dd's warts, it took a while as I kept being slack and not consistent but they are now gone!!!! After a good year or more my dd no longer has clumpy, multiple raised warts and she is so happy.

Erin,

I'm so glad you bumped this up, and that dd warts are gone. I have been meaning to come by here and sing the praises of ACV. I had a small wart on my hand after only one night of treating it with ACV it is gone!

And the banana peel worked, too. After about 2 weeks, the wart was gone! I'm typing with baby in arms here and can give more detail if you want later.

God bless,
Christine

Oh Ladies, I'm glad I found this post!

My ds age 6 has had a wart for over a year. He really wants it off! We have tried homeopathic remedies--no good. We have tried the freeze off stuff that helped another son but --no good here. We have tried the clipper method that worked with another child but still no good here.

So, now thanks to all of you we are about to try the Apple Cider Vinigar treatment. I'll keep you posted!

I have a question though...What is the duct tape thing??? And what do you do with the banana peel? Rub it on? Or do you put a piece of it in a bandaid?

Jody

We put the banana peel on the wart and covered it with a bandaid. We changed it every morning and at night before bed (assuming we remembered ).

I hope that helps,
Christine

From the People's Pharmacy, a column featured in our newspaper (and they have a website):

Several people have taken Tagamet orally to get rid of warts. One teen took Tagamet for three months and all of the warts were gone. In another case, a twenty three year old man took cimetidine OTC (Tagamet, I presume?) twice a day with meals, and finally after two months, noticed some warts disappearing.

Here it is just in case any one wants to try it.
