Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yarn is another one of mine. I am not even a very proficient knitter! But it's all so pretty... when I see hand-painted skeins on display, I want to take them home, hang them on my wall, keep them in baskets. Who needs pets when you can pull a ball of yarn onto your lap to stroke while watching a movie or reading a book? (Okay, I have resisted that temptation, but it is there!)

What a fun thread.

1. sweets -- any and all *except* chocolate (unless it's chocolate mixed with orange, which is oh-so-good). I've quit liking it in the last year. Don't know why. (I know, I'm weird.)

2. (or really #1 if I'm gonna be honest...):

CAgirl4God wrote:

getting better.. but still a big vice! lol

3. Tater tots. I'd kicked this one, but it's back. I think that we've been eating out too much since Easter (something we try not to do for health/budget reasons, but like Maryan, I'd love to do the donuts/pbj/restaraunt thing daily!) and I'm craving fat filled carbs.

4. Books. I'm making myself purge, though. (Shocking, I know!)

Okay.. I realized today that I need to add cashews in there somewhere. It would go with #3. And the awful thing is that cashews are healthy (in moderation, which I don't do, hence the vice) and require no baking.

Tim -- I was kinda hoping that you wouldn't catch this thread!

This is fun to learn such shocking things about you all!

Mine include:
1. Staying up WAY too late.

2. The internet - and this forum more specifically
(#1 and #2 go hand in hand, by the way.)

3. M&Ms, and chocolate in general

4. Caffeine Free Coke Classic

5. The TV show 24. I'm in withdrawal from that addiction this year. I was sooooo bummed when I learned that although the strike ended, they wouldn't be producing this season.

6. And my newest vice . . . in the absence of 24 this year . . . do I have the courage to admit it here? . . . my older kids led me into this one . . . but it has become a bit of an addiction . . .
It's watching American Idol! I couldn't handle the early part of the season, so we started watching when they had whittled the field down to 20 people or so. We try to watch only the night when everyone sings. Then turn the TV on for the last 10 minutes of the results night to see who will not be returning. (We were completely shocked by the results tonight, by the way. And my family is cheering for Brooke to win!)

My brother and I used to love it when my mom ordered pop from the little pizza place in our little town. We always said they had "soft ice". Which seems like an oxymoron, but I think it was crushed and so seemed easier for a child to crunch.

I haven't done mine and Irene's list hit a few chords, so I'll take a couple of hers:

3. Crafts supplies, especially rubber stamping ones

4. Checking out TOO many books from the library

5. Slurpees from 7-11

For all of us who confessed to an excessive book-vice, I wanted to share something I recently read in "Happy Are You Poor" by Thomas Dubay:

(pg. 119)
"Charles de Foucauld offered a simple norm for lay frugality in a letter to his married sister: 'Yes, live simply, avoid any unnecessary expense; in your manner and way of life, withdraw ever further from everything that smacks of the world, vanity, and pride....There must be no economizing on good books (spiritual matters and lives of the saints)...no economizing on alms; no reductions here, but rather increases....Trust, trust! Be free from all anxiety....' "

So, there! You've been set free.

P.S. the above emphasis is my own.

And then there's my husband's famous quote:

"One can never have too many children or books."

Oh, Irene, I laughed when I saw this...you're not the only one!!! The funny thing is we never watch broadcast t.v., I still don't know how we got so hooked on this show !
This is the first real t.v. show my kids have ever watched. We turn off the commercials . Is it just me, or have the contestants chosen a lot of religious/faith themed songs this year? I have been pleasantly surprised at the songs chosen and their lyrics(as my trigger finger stands always at the ready on the 'off' button on the remote lest some provacative lyrics come up) Did you hear all the contestants sing, "Shout to the Lord" last night? I was thrilled, to say the least! We love Brooke, too. But my girls really want "little David" to win!!!

Mary, Other than 24 for my husband and me, we haven't watched broadcast TV in recent years either. So this is my kids' first real TV experience.

I completely understand about that trigger finger. Dh or I hold the remote and mute every commercial. If even the visual is innappropriate, we switch to the weather channel or something.

I have noticed the religious songs and was amazed to hear the entire crowd singing "Shout to the Lord." I was wondering if one of the producers has had a conversion to Christianity or something.

I like David Archuleta too. He's got an amazing voice for someone that young. If I were still a teeniebopper, I'd surely have a crush on him!
