Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Okay, I'm playing devil's advocate here... but in a fun way.

I'm talking about "fun" vices here. An oxymoron, I'm sure.

I think getting to know one another better is a good thing and vices are part of the human package.

We all strive for virtue, but what are the vices that we struggle with, and how do they pull you down, and do you even attempt to concur these vices?

Some members started sharing theirs at this thread.

Realized I didn't share mine.

It would have to be books and photographs of my children.

Ah well, Cay, I think you need to have a narrower topic, as I have many vices. Food vice, Drink Vice, Spending vice, Time Wasting vice....

Books calling to me is a major one.

well I have several, naturally! lol

one: is my crafting supplies. some of which I haven't looked at in three yrs. yet still they sit. I can not seem to part with them. they are taking up valuable space too. I do not have this packrat problem with other things.. just my cratfing stuff.

two: I am a bit of a perfectionist.. or is it controlling? I like things my way or... the highway.
getting better.. but still a big vice! lol

three: carbs... I LOVE carbs. they are the bane of my exsistence lol. I crave them more than anything else..even coffee lol.

Jenn,
What the hey! Playing in the dirt is fun.

Food Vices sounds intriguing to me.
Mine would be fast food and Dr. Pepper.

I just can't seem to give Dr. P up. If I could I'd probably lose a couple of pounds.

I love, love, love hot chocolate! I tried to break it this winter by switching to tea and it worked somewhat but I never really gave it up. I had a cup yesterday and it was 70 degrees...it really is a sickness.

Also, ellipses......I use them way, way, way too much.

Oh, the same thing here, Cay, but my poison...I mean "fun vice" is Pepsi.

Oh, but there are SO many.

- Sewing/handcraft magazines
- natural fibre yarns and handcraft supplies
- wooden playthings
- cooking shows
- British television programs
- educational videos
- and chocolate cake with chocolate frosting

Blessings,

ice cream and cheap books.

I try to avoid garage and thrift sales, but I let myself spend a few dollars each month at our "Friends of the Library" bookstore.

I'm with you on this one, Marie. I had to laugh when I saw this because I am sitting at the computer with a cup of cocoa right now! (And no, it's not a cold morning here--it's 1pm and in the sunny 60's!)

Lots of food-related vices here: granola and yogurt, pasta, cheese...these would all be good foods in moderation, but I'm, um, not exactly moderate with them!

Oh dear. Best to stick to the big ones.

1. Food
2. Coffee
3. Books
4. Sleep

Curious both sleep and coffee are on this list...

Where should I start? I left so many of my vices in my old house, but I have a feeling they will follow me. Some of them include:

- craft and sewing supplies (including my sewing machine)
- cook books and crafting books
- many VHS tapes related to teaching and the faith

But the ones that came with me include ...

- books, books, and more books; Ask Cay, I have already ordered from her!
- cooking and spices. Penzey's is my favorite
- I love Diet Coke (so does my dh)
- I love coffee, dark chocolate, and wine

I am sure that I will think of more as I see others post their vices!

I think we should all stop being so hard on ourselves! Books don't count! And raisins? You're making me feel terrible!

I already mentioned chocolate milk in the five things thread. At least it's raw milk but it must be Nesquik powder and, I don't care what the package says, that can't be healthy. Also, baking (and eating) scones. I do it way too often.

As for spending . . . coffee out. I drink it at home every morning and I really have to fight temptation to not stop at coffee shops when I'm out with the kids.

Susan

I have your standard vices my list reads like Patty's except I'd have to add ice cream sundaes with whipped cream and I use to LOVE the little Minesweeper game on the computer... but five kids have cured me of that.

Procrastinating BIG TIME!

Clothes . . . . I SO badly would love to have a wonderful WELL FITTING outfit for every day of the month. (I hate the pregnant/not pregnant, fat/a bit less fat problem. It makes me somehow unable to have anything to wear and that makes me depressed ) I know . . . I am vain . . .

And chocolate.
Nissa, I love chocolate cake with chocolate frosting too! I made a huge one for my daughter's second birthday. I ate ALL of it in one week, not counting the two pcs that my toddler got and one my husband had.

ETA: And really, is "books" a vice, everyone?? I refuse to say that my craving for every good book i never see or hear of is a VICE! Its a good thing!!!

I must amend my post to include bailing on making dinner and instead taking the kids out to eat, doesn't much matter where as long as someone else is cooking and cleaning up.

Books, books and more books -- but only good ones (avoid twaddle like the plague!)

Knitting (big surprise huh?)

Online forums (ummm, , especially this one!)

Writing

and did I mention, COFFEE -- the blacker/stronger the better (no cream, sugar, cocoa, or cinnamon)
