Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I saw that and meant to post the link, but then couldn't remember what thread it was! Thanks, Rachel!

This happened to me one Thanksgiving years ago. But to be fair I did put it on the stovetop after taking it out of the oven, *with the burner on low*, thinking it was okay to make gravy that way

I exploded mine by making gravy but I did have the temp on high. I now cook the gravy on the stovetop on low and haven't had a problem.

you can get stainless steel ($$$$) or enamelware in most baking sizes.. neither are supposed to leach anything into the food.

I tried stainless steel after the gravy incident and wasn't happy, I could only get a teflon covered one which didn't thrill me also I couldn't use steel wool on it to clean, I ended up throwing it out and going back to pyrex.

ETA: maybe it wasn't stainless steel as it wasn't expensive, it was some metal thing from Big W.

Yes. Eighteen years of marriage and I still have to learn and relearn this.

My Pyrex exploded just yesterday. I was baking a chicken in it, pulled it out of the oven just to baste it a bit, and BOOM! glass shards, chicken juice EVERYWHERE. I am so thankful no one got hurt. I am so getting rid of all my Pyrex. I read this thread back when it was first posted, but didn't do anything abou it (obviously). Now I'm getting rid of all my Pyrex. Ay carumba.

Yikes! I know what DH and I will be discussing when he gets home! (Poor, unsuspecting DH...)

Thanks for reviving this thread. We use a whole lot of pyrex, so I guess it's time to start switching over to stoneware...or something.

Snopes finally updated their Pyrex page. There's more info there on why/how this happens.

Thanks for this update and link, Stef. In the past couple of years, I have had two or three pyrex baking pans shatter (always ruining some great meal! ), but I never thought about reporting it to the product safety commission. I wonder what they would do if they received a complaint about every shattered pyrex baking dish?

God Bless,
Stacy in MI
