I wanted to update you on my little preemie niece. She has done beautifully this past week. I learned this evening that my mom was able to donate blood for the possible transfusion, which was a relief to all, but the baby did not end up needing it.

She has done wonderfully with learning to take pumped breastmilk from a bottle. And my brother told me that the nurses were very impressed with how well she did in her first attempt at nursing this weekend. One of them told my s-i-l that the baby did better than many full term babies on their first try. (Another huge relief!)

I understand that my niece has been taken out of the heated isolette and she now needs to show in the next 48 hours that she can hold her body temperature steady enough to go home. If all goes well, she'll be home in a few days.
