MacBeth,
I would be very interested in getting a copy of the script for "Comus". Read the post, read the article, ordered the book. Looks really intriguing!

Here's the play: 2005-09-22_201322_COMUS_for_Michaelmas.doc (adapted for the youngsters by Kari).
Have fun!

If you guys can, get the book, Comus from the Library -- it is a great evil vs good book and they did the original play on Michaelmas!
We read it today and it was GREAT!

One lady in our hs group makes Devils Food cake, frosts it, puts St. St. Micheal on top and let the kids stab plastic swords into it. Then they eat it!

Well, folks, just a quick report that the Angel Hair pasta, the Wings and the Devils Food Cake...complete with St. Michael perched on top, and appropriately attacked with little "swords" after recitation of the St. Michael prayer, were all BIG hits here. As an added plus, we sang all the verses of the "St. Rafael" song from the von Trapp book, "Around the Year with the Trapp Family" while we lit the St. Michael votive candle (that I found in the supermarket!). I also found beautiful St. Michael laminated bookmarks that I put at everyone's seat, too. Even our non-Catholic foreign exchange student that lives with us enjoyed the occasion. All in all, it was a big success. Thanks to all for the suggestions!

Sounds like a wonderful celebration, Kelly. We also have those votive candles in our supermarket. I'll have candles for Our Lady of Guadalupe, Juan Diego, St. Barbara and St. Michael! I think there was a stray saint in there...
I had to share this...I had been reading about Michaelmas Daisies and so wanted to have some this year. We just moved into a new house last month. I just put together that these purple flowers that were blooming by my driveway are Michaelmas daisies, or purple asters. And they are perennials so I'm set!

I am hoping to get some pictures of our Comus production online tonight. We had to cancel last week because of rain, so we are making up the performance today. Another week of rehearsal did not hurt .

I'm with envy (that's green, not dead) that you had rain! We've been so dry here!
Looking forward to the pictures!

Right...well, this was the second rain in six weeks, and it stopped at showtime, and the sun came out and mocked us, but by that time our audience had decided to stay home. Today we have a great forecast, but are waiting for a major fog to burn off.
Praying for rain where it's needed, and none where it's not!

Days later...look through the next few posts for Comus scenes!
Here are some photos from our production of Comus. These are screen shots from the camcorder, and though you cannot see the kids clearly (my apologies to their wonderful parents), I think the flavor of the production and costuming comes through:
