Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Um, no social life lately, but I didn't know how all those other pregnant women -- or employees, or anyone else -- could stand it at the OB's stuffy office! I was glad I had worn a sweater over a publicly presentable T-shirt for ease of blood pressure taking -- the sweater came off in the waiting room. I dread going back!

I do bump the heat up if we have guests. All of our family is from TX and LA, so when they come to VA they are freeeeezing. (Although this is by far the mildest climate we've lived in for a while.) And of course, I'm sweating and the kids will run around in short sleeves, all the while my MIL is constantly telling me that my children should be more "appropriately" dressed for the weather.

If we have local visitors and they seem cold, I'll turn it up for the time that they are here.

Gee, I am feeling really wimpy...we our keeping our temp at 65 night and day. Maybe we will turn it down to 62 next week. Dh has not gotten back to me about any money saved yet. Dh has been home for the past month and he is the one complaining about how cold it is in the house.

I don't re-adjust the temp if we have guests. Honestly, if we have guests we have a house full and the energy put off by the kiddos running around off-sets the lower temp.

I did buy everyone flannel sheets at CostCo early on in this experiement. I might check out the target blankets. We talked about getting a nice down comforter for our bed but are holding off....one of my projects this year is to fix up our master bedroom.

We don't use our fireplace because it is gas, dh was able to turn it off. I can not stand the smell it puts out when we turn it on. If it would not invlove knocking walls around.....I would love to put in a pellet stove.

Oh my, yes. I was drenched after a visit. While I'm more open to seasonal changes in my home, I don't wear lots of layers going out, because it's so hot everywhere I go. I don't like high heat, and now anything above 68 is hot. It's dry and I feel like I can't breathe.

Our family has a weekly cross -- at Sunday Mass in our church it just gets so stuffy and hot -- just too many people. We underdress for the outside weather to combat the heat.

You might already be doing this, but I thought I'd mention just in case -- I highly recommend budget billing. It really helps me maintain my sanity -- there are no major surprises to give me mini heart attacks every month.

We lowered our daytime and nighttime temps by 2 degrees, inspired by everyone here. And talked about trying to lower it further as we get used to it. Hey, every little bit helps! And if we can prevent respiratory ailments, that's really the big plus for us!

We don't turn it up for regular guests--though my son's therapist has taken to wearing her coat during sessions! When my dad was visiting we turned the heat to 65 because we knew he'd be cold and would interpret it as "you must need money" and give us some. I had a friend visiting from NYC where her landlord (and every other one she's ever had) keeps her apartment at 80+ all winter. She was pregnant and traveling with a toddler so I told her to turn up the heat as high as she needed through the weekend. I was roasting at 68 the whole time. It's funny what we get used to.

I've seen a couple of references to people needing more heat during pregnancy. That is decidedly not my experience! Seriously, the other night waiting outside the house for a moment before going inside, I had my long warm coat on over a short-sleeved shirt, and no gloves, hat, or anything, and it felt great. I guessed it was 36 and an hour later checked the weather and it said 28. Obviously being out in that temperature too long would not be good for me but it felt better than coming into the house where the thermostat had switched automatically to 69 since we were out and I couldn't say "Ugh!" and rush to turn it down 2 or 3 degrees.

Theresa, I get so hot in pregnancy. Dh jokes that he know when I'm pregnant, because I'm so hot. I only need a sheet at night, no coat, etc. just like you!

Well, I'm trying to gradually set mine lower--of course, it now being Jan is probably a little late for this year, lol...

But with twins, and DH who refuses to believe we need it any lower than 70...ugh.

I have currently got the doors and windows open airing out the house...but when the thermometer DOES get turned back on, it's set at 69. LOL. He hasn't noticed, so I'm going to turn it down another degree tonight.

Slow and steady...lol.

Rachel (whose family doesn't run to illness, regardless)
