The Elimination Diet
Dairy and other Food Sensitivities in Breastfed Babies
Has anyone tried an elimination diet? The thought overwhelms me, but here are some links that might help.
Molly, I don't know how you juggle what you are doing. I just came away from your prayer request. The other day my baby was crying to eat, G wanted to play in the snow, I was still unshowered, I get G outside and set off the alarm (which is new). I crumpled into a heap and cried. I can't handle a preschooler and an infant, I don't know how you do it with all your other balls in the air.

my baby had colic for 8 painful months. we tried everything you listed and a few more. none of them worked. we had her adjusted by a chiropractor and she never had colic again. she was also having constant ear infections and they disappeared as well. you have my total sympathy - i had no idea how hard a colicky baby was until this.

Five times! It was much easier, mentally, the fifth time than the others.

This is kind of getting off the topic, but I wanted to give you a thumbs up of support, Jenn. Having a preschooler or toddler and a newborn, with no other kids around, is probably the HARDEST thing I've ever done. The other kids *help* you keep the balls in the air, even if there are more of them. Balls and kids, LOL. Add recovering from surgery, and cold weather, and it's no wonder you are finding it all extremely hard, Jenn.

I just have to second this - really. While I've never had a colicky baby - (I have no idea how we've managed to escape this!!) I remember after I had my 2nd baby, a mom of 10 said what I was doing during that time was harder than what she was doing ~ and while I knew what I was juggling was hard, I thought she was crazy. Turns out she wasn't. (Either that or I'm just as crazy now as she was then...) Having all littles with no bigs is HARD work!! Mad Props to you Jenn and Mary Theresa!

Thanks, Amy and Lisa. I didn't mean to complain because things have been pretty good. This baby doesn't have colic so far. The 4 yo is demanding and loud, but the baby seems to be calm and content (and fat and happy). I still think homeschooling AND more children AND colic are just so much.
Molly, some of the colic might be just plain old fussiness because he detects your stress. You have a lot on your plate. My 3rd sister cried constantly as a baby. My mother had lost her father suddenly almost 2 months after the baby was born, but she had a lot stress in her life besides that. It was awful. She made her own carrier back when babywearing wasn't even a term.

OH, can I just say thank you, Lisa?
to you Jenn. I collapse and cry too. I just had a bad day a few days ago where I swear I was in tears half a dozen times.
This thread is comforting me. Thank you.

Hmm. That's it. I've just decided that i'm gonna bite the no-chiropractor-insurance bullet and take her to mine.
At least I'm gonna do this before I *sniff, sniff* eliminate my favorite foods.

The chiropractor was a godsend for us.
First baby had colic from 7ish until 2:00. We tried everything we heard of. Nothing helped but time. It was a long 3 m.
2nd baby had colic also only she started much earlier during the late afternoon and continued to scream until after midnight. We visited my parents at Xmas (she was 3wks old) and after a day my mom was ready to take her to the ER. I was like...that is how babies are...
Mom insisted we take her to a chiropractor because she had read something on it. Dh (medically trained with no previous chiro exposure) was not real keen on chiro. We brought her to one who mentioned working on infants. The chiro examined her and told us he didn't feel anything out of the ordinary. He used a "pressure gun" on a few spots but that was about it. He really didn't think anything he did would help but encouraged me to start taking bifido.
However that afternoon we were shocked when she didn't start screaming at 4, nothing at 7, and it turned into a peaceful night. She was a completely different child within hours. Coincident? Miracle? It saved my sanity.
I hope chiropractics works from your dd!
