I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for this, but I just had to share this neat little thing that happened today.
I have been wanting a Miraculous Medal for a while now, to wear on a short chain around my neck. I had been half-hoping I would get one for my birthday, but when that came and went, I decided to spend some of the money my grandmother gave me on just such an item.
A bit of backstory, though. A few years ago my mother gave me some of her old jewelry - a charm bracelet, pins, earrings etc. Amongst these treasures was a small Miraculous Medal that my mum received when she made her FHC 56 years ago! I tucked it away with the other things (in a special china dish) and forgot all about it.
So when a few months ago I admired the MM a friend was wearing, and got the idea I'd love one for myself, I did not remember I already had one in my posession. (Unfortunately my brain just works that way sometimes. )
So then this morning, I was writing out a list of weekend errands. I wrote down a stop at the Catholic gift shop (to look at Lenten reading) when I remembered I wanted to look at (and possibly purchase) a MM, so I jotted that down and got all happy thinking about it.
Not *two minutes* later my dh walked up the stairs and had something in his hand. He said to me, "The strangest thing just happened ..."
He proceeded to tell me how he was in the downstairs bathroom (where he showers and readies for work), when he did some cleaning (bless him) and he opened the cabinet under the sink to grab a trash bag. But as he pulled out a bag, something flew out and hit him on the foot!
You guessed it: my mother's Medal!
He didn't recognize it, and of course he was shocked to have something like that come flying out of the cupboard! But I remembered it immediately when I saw it. I remembered it from my tiny jewelry cup on the bureau, the one with the things I don't wear regularly.
I couldn't believe I had forgotten I already owned a Miraculous Medal (one with special meaning, no less) *and* that I was thisclose to buying myself a new one ... only to "rediscover" this one in such a surprising way!
(And for the record, we can't figure out how the medal possibly got down there. I haven't touched it since I first put it in the dish!)
I have floated on air ever since. I just feel so good about this, and I can't describe excactly why. But I just knew I had to share this story with you all ... I knew you'd understand how happy this makes me feel.

They don't call them "miraculous" for nothing, do they?
I can't wait to see a picture of it!

What a sweet story. I guess Our Lady really wanted you to wear that special medal.
You should try making a necklace with beads the way Elizabeth made us those lovely bracelets in August. I love mine and a complimentary necklace is on my list of projects.

That's a great story Dawn.
Sounds very Motherly of Our Lady.
(Am I saying that the right way?)

If you wanted to wear it all the time, you could make one like the one in this picture(click on the picture to see it bigger). It's on a clasp that will hold three strands. I've got a miraculous medal on the first strand and St. Therese on the second. I planned to put Our Lady of La Leche on the third but it seemed a bit much for everyday. I'm still deciding
The nice thing about medal necklaces that are beaded on wire is that they really are kid-friendly--much more so than chain link.

What a beautiful story, Dawn! I am SO glad that you shared. It just warms my heart -- Exactly the kind of thing that Our Lady would do.
Ew I immediately thought that I should clarify -- Of course, Our Lady is constantly thinking of us, praying for us, and doing things for us whether we see it or not, but it is in these small details -- the little but oh-so-important things that I see her tender care and love for us the best. She and Our Lord are so involved in the details of our lives. They care for our smallest needs and desires, and I just love "seeing" that in others' lives as well.

It *is* a beautiful story. It also reminds me that I need to find or make a necklace for the Miraculous Medal left me by my birth mother... Maybe I will try my hand at beading, too.
Thank you for sharing, Dawn!

This is a great story Dawn! It makes me want to do a better job at wearing my MM. My chain broke years ago and it has sat in my jewelry box. Like Angel and Elizabeth, I think I'll try beading my own. Thanks for the inspiration!
