Thought some families may find this an interesting site. Lots of Redwall receipes for Redwall fans.

Also found the official Redwall site that has some crossword puzzles to do.

a bunch of redwall fans here too... it's an obsession right now, LOL. they love the books AND the audiobooks. we should start a list: you know your kids are crazy about Redwall when:
1. they yell Eulaliaaaaaaa!!!!! while running through the house.
2. they hum and sing Rakkety Tam all day long.
3. they sing kick a magpie in the eye, shoot the crow with a great big bow.... while riding in the van
4. they think the funniest thing is dandin's song:
it happened in the springtime
when all the leaves were green
and once again abbess germaine
a-baking cakes had been....
5. your 3-year old sings:
oh it's hard and dry when the sun is high and the dust is in your throat, when the rain pours down near fit to drown, and soaks right through your coat, but the hares of the long patrol my lads stout hearts they walk with me, over hill and plain and back again by the shores of the wide blue sea.... even though she can't say her S's and L's and her R's

What ages are your Redwall Fans? My son is 7, and a voracious reader, he loves King Arthur, Robin Hood, and is currently becoming a HUGE fan of The Chronicles of Narnia.
Do you think 7 is too young? Gone are the days when I was able to keep up with what he was reading....
Thanks

Noreen,
Our book club just read Redwall and we have ages ranging from 7 through 11. Your son will LOVE the book!! My 5 year old son was attentively listening to every reading and loved the book! My husband became hooked while listening to the book on CD during his long commutes to and from work.

Just wanted to share our latest venture. A friend and I were talking and in late January we are hosting a Redwall Feast. The children are very excited, they are planning who they are going as, one wants to be Matthais, another Lord Brocktree, they told dd4 to be Cornflower (very cute) My dd12 is thinking possibly Dottie (we always tease her and says she has an appetiete like a hare. ds6 as he jumps onto the lounge, pulls a scary face and says, 'I'll be Cluny the Scourge'.
We'll have some Redwall dishes, and I was thinking the children could create a tapestry to hang on the wall. Lots of ideas flowing.

Much later...a review.
We had our Redwall feast back in January and it was a wonderful success The children all looked so wonderful in their outfits and so did dh and I
The families involved bought a variety of dishes, dh's favourite was my 'hotroot soup' boy was it hot! Some of the children enjoyed the deeper than ever beetroot and tater pie. (I didn't)
The archery contest was also a 'big hit'.
Dc and I spent three days prior to the festival building a Redwall Abbey. We adapted these instructions from Art Attack We had a bit of trouble laying it all out until I realised that it needed to square So we then laid it on a big board of timber and away we went. We built the Abbey walls from shoe boxes, and the walls tops from egg cartons. By the time we had spent days creating we decided to spray paint the walls instead. It was a wonderful project to do together we all learnt alot about team work, it was interesting to see the different approaches and attitudes of my dc
Before you think you could never do something like this, please believe me when I tell you that we hardly ever do art/craft and I am not at all that way inclined. Although I did really enjoy the process and the end result We had a ball.

Irene,
I just wanted to mention that our ds got stuck on Mossflower and didn't think he would like the rest of the series, even though he read Redwall twice and listened to it on tape. Finally I just told him to skip Mossflower and go on to the rest of the series and he's eating it up. Sometimes you just need to skip ahead.

Thanks, Gwen, I'll have to suggest they both give it another try.

We gave Redwall a try some years ago and didn't really like it. Now you have all got me excited about trying it again with the boys. Thanks!
Erin, the pictures are wonderful and so inspiring!

Redwall came highly recommended to me by my cousin who homeschools, and I just checked one of them out at the library to read. We're still on book #4 of the Chronicles of Narnia so we won't be diving into Redwall just yet, but soon.

Erin,
Could you tell me which Art Attack you modified the instructions for to build the Abbey? The link just took me to the main page?
Thanks,
Kathleen

Erin, We loved the pics of the abbey! Thank you for sharing them! Our three boys love Redwall and alternate between LOTR, Narnia and Redwall for various types of projects and adventurous play. They are currently making weapons for a whole slew of beanie babies that they had already spent several days outfitting in Redwall-type costumery (which they fashioned from various scraps of cord, fabric and such around the house). For the weapons, they use uncoated electrical wire or different sizes of nails which they pound flat on rock to "Smith" the swords, axes and other weaponry. They embellish the handles with beads to make intricate hilts 'n such. I've been quite impressed with the level of creativity and suspect that they gleaned many ideas from watching the WETA workshop scenes from the extended version DVDs of all three LOTR movies. Oh what incredible adventures occur in Homeschoolingland!

absolutely Redwall fans here :)
they were a godsend for my once-younger precocious reader. he's read all of the volumes at least twice, some three times--
and the "insults contest" over and over and over . . . !

I just looked under the Fantasy Castle and it was a drawing. My boys absolutely adore Redwall, and that might be a project that they would like to do.

Erin, thanks for the pics and link. My boys are loving the books and even my 6 year old is trying to read them. This looks like something we may be able to do.
