Thanks for sharing that Leonie. You are truly an inspiration. Would you mind if I asked how you lost the weight?
I'm feeling a little de-flated because a few days ago I made a few resolutions and here I am feeling like a failure because I was not able to keep them!! Of course, deciding to walk 5X a week in Michigan in the middle of winter is sort of silly!

How often do you weigh yourself? I'm tempted to every day but I've heard it's better to weigh in once a week. Just curious.

Hello Ladies and Tim, (He's the only guy participating, right?)
I am SO excited!! This weekend is the banquet! I finally went shopping on Saturday. Last year I wore the purple dress in the blog photos, that dress is a size 22/24. This year all the clothes I bought are size 8/10! Even my shoe size is smaller, . I am down to 156.8 lbs; I have officially lost 76.2 lbs since March 22, 2007.
I have not put up photos on the blog yet but I will between tonight and Monday. If I have time to do it before we leave I will, otherwise I will do it when we get back.
Please keep us in your prayers for safe travel. We are all traveling together to Las Cruces but then the kids are driving by themselves the rest of the way to Douglas, AZ (another 3 hours most of the way without cell phone service!). Emily has driven it before but we were always in the car with her. The family knows when they should be in cell service and when they should arrive so if they aren't there within the time frame they will drive toward Las Cruces until they find them (in case of car trouble).
I hope everyone is feeling better that has been sick. The kids here keep passing something back and forth but so far I have been spared (except for the strep back in Jan). Congrats to all those who are having success sticking with their plans. It is tough, it really is but it is SO worth it in the long run. One pound here and there seems so insignificant but they sure do add up over time!
Becky, I weigh myself everyday, sometimes more than once . Sometimes I weigh less in the early morning, sometimes mid-morning, sometimes in the evening. I like to see if the numbers are consistent and how much they fluctuate. I only update (chart) my weight once per week, usually on Saturday.
Blessings,
Krisann

Congratulations, Krisann - I look forward to the pics!
Becky, I started with little steps - I realized I could't go on a diet, been there, done that. Instead, I worked on ( work on) body image and healthy eating and healthy exercise. So, for me, it was a five year journey, but at least it has been lifestyle changes. Six years ago, I was obese, now I am "normal" and this is now my way of life. It takes time and is a process so don't beat yourself up over slips along the way - this is for life, right?
My first step was walking. I had just come out of hospital, after a messy miscarriage and deep vein thrombosis, and had been on bed rest so could only walk 15 minutes a day. But I started where I was.
Same with food. I knew what I needed to do - I researched some low fat meal ideas, made a list of ideas for meals and snacks and "treats" and tried to watch portions.
And I read ( still read) books like "Intuitive Eating" to work on the mind stuff often associated with food and body image and diets, for women.
And then I gradually added in changes from there.
I used to weigh only monthly at the beginning. To break the scale and number addiction. Now I weigh once or twice a week.
HTH!

Man this gets tough when you get busy.
I haven't exercised in days and I'm up late babysitting the fire(all our wood is wet ) and that leftover birthday cake is calling me from the kitchen...
But! I want so much to see that ole' gal in the mirror again. I'll drink some more water.

Good girl, coming here for support. I KNOW how ALL of those things feel: wet wood (my kindling was wet all week last week ), cake (or cookies, etc)....and loss of exercise.
God give us these gifts of many kids ...and along with that comes birthday cake up to umpteen times in a year, EVERY SINGLE YEAR.....and we are supposed to be moderate?
And, worse, they go to bed early, so we have easy access to that cake when they are not looking......just one bite........well, one more......the saliva is really going now....shoot, I did not mean to eat that much.
Next morning: "Hey, who ate all of MY birthday cake gone!?"
(Dirty, glaring look at ol' mom)
Forgive me...........humor is part of my temperment.
And, the above is a real scenario in my life. I try to avoid making birthday cake when I can.
Okay.......nuf..........I was able to crawl here with another dose of ibuprofen. Not sure when MY lungs will be allowing ME to exercise again.

Photos are posted on the blog for anyone who is interested.
Chari, fortunately for me cake is not really a temptation. However, cookies are another story and Julia LOVES to bake cookies! It is really hard to pass by them without grabbing one each time. She makes the BEST cookies and it doesn't matter what flavor. She just has that special touch.
Blessings,
Krisann

Chari, prayers continuing for your family's recovery.
My parents had this joke of "evening it out". They would cut out portions of the cake with a spoon, so that it never looked "even" so they would continue with the spoon to help "even it out". That was their excuse on the eaten cake.
I am coming in late to this thread. I have weight loss goals, but I'm trying to keep it simple and real. I have 3 goals: I have 10 pounds to lose until I am pre-pregnancy weight. That's my first goald. The second is to lose the 10 pounds to pre-pregnancy weight of my first son, and the third goal is to lose 5-10 more to my ideal weight. I just would be happy right now to reach the first one. I have no will power and no perserverence.

Here's my update:
I am down about 5 pounds, but I am not too excited because I have lost 3-5 pounds before and quickly regain it. The hard part will be to continue losing. I will start celebrating when I lose 10. Ideally I should lose about 15 more and I will feel perfect!

Okay, the weight loss goals have changed since I'm pregnant. My goal is to keep in shape and not gain the 40-50 pounds I usually gain. I wouldn't worry too much except I still hadn't lost all the weight from my last pregnancy and I'm almost 38--so much harder to lose weight. I remember once when I never worried about weight.

Becky, (et al!)
I weigh myself everyday or every other day, once in morning and once before I go to bed. There are, of course, the natural fluctuations of weight that one will see, (maybe I drank more water one day or ate more complex carbohydrates kind of thing), however, I find it the easiest way to moderate my eating behavior for the next day. I know that if I go to sleep above a certain weight, that I can make the necessary corrections the next day. When you weigh yourself consistently, you also might start to see a cycle developing within your monthly cycle. This brings me some peace of mind, knowing that a one to five pound weght swing within a certain week of the month is absolutely normal, and not a sign that I have lost the struggle of maintaining my 35 lb weight loss.
I hope that helps! Congratulations to all of you lovely ladies who are striving to lose weight! I would like you all to know that no one but I knew that I had lost the first 20 lbs, but after that, it became noticeable even to my closest friends. Don't give up on yourselves!
Peace and prayers!

Cool pics, Krisann!
Becky, I find I can only weigh once or twice a week, or else I get neurotic about the scale . I've lost about 80 lbs since 6 years ago and focusing on fitness and lifestyle helps me with maintaining.

I weigh myself daily, at the same time every morning. That is what works for me; when I lose that habit I immediately start slipping in diet and exercise. I even keep a chart -- it works for me but I could certainly see that this would be too obsessive for some people. But keeping track helps me see the weight changes due to time of the month as Lara said.
I just found I have gained 20 pounds since last fall so I am following this thread too. Now that I am middle aged I find I can't get away with the bad food habits I picked up in high school and college years.

Well, I've been procrastinating in joining you all here... I REALLY need to lose some weight and improve my level of fitness - both for my health and to reach some personal goals I have. So, here I am, please take me on and keep me accountable!
I'd read somewhere that those who keep a weight loss blog tend to have a higher success rate, as long as they were faithfully writing in it. So, I decided to start one. It's called Finding Fitness and will have all the boring details of my struggle in this area of my life. But I'll post my progress here too, if that's all right. Krisann's success is really motivating me right now.
In a nutshell...
Age:
I just turned 36 last Thursday.
Overall weight-loss goals:
I need to lose about 70 pounds.
Exercise plans for yourself:
I have many but aim to keep things simple for now. I aim to spend an hour outside walking with the kids daily.
Dietary changes you see your self making:
I aim to use Weight Watchers - Core Plan to help me with this but I am going to ease into it gradually. The only thing I am going to really work on for April is to keep my snacks to those allowed on the Core Program. Believe me, this will be a major adjustment in and of itself!
Physical symptoms currently suffering, and looking for improvement:
I suffer from Silent migraines and have heard some evidence that being overweight may make attacks more frequent. I already know from experience that certain foods can bring one on - generally foods that I shouldn't be eating anyway. That's why I'm going on WW Core Plan instead of the more permissive Flex Plan. The first time I experienced one, I went to emergency since I lost all feeling in my left side. The attending physician actually had to rule out a stroke, despite the fact that I was only 27! In fact, many of my symptoms mimic those of a stroke and really frighten me. Knowing that extra weight is also a risk factor for stroke also is motivating me.
Besides that, the usual suspects are also motivating me. The desire for increased energy and stamina to be a better mom for my growing brood. Also, my last pregnancy seemed a lot harder than the previous ones. I'm hoping that, should we be so blessed as to have another, I'll be better prepared for it, physically.
Any other comments:
Sadly, I'm not a very disciplined person so I could really use a lot of help to keep me on track. I need all the help I can get!

well, I did cut down a bit on snacks at work, but I was still drinking a large coffee plus 2-4 soft drinks per day.
but Janette and I are on day 10 of the 10-day Lemon Cleanse (also referred to as the Master Cleanse), during which I have lost ~13 lbs. that brings my total weight loss for the year to 18 lbs (of my hoped-for 30).
as we resume eating regularly again, I plan to reduce portions when eating, have breakfast in the morning (to keep from snacking), and drink juice or water instead of soda at work.
still thinking I can meet my goal of 30 lbs by July 1.

well, for the past couple of weeks, I seem to have become stuck at ~20lbs lost, but I am still hopeful that I can lose the final 10 over the next month.
