Dear friends,
I'm asking for prayers again, this time for me, please. I'm having a hard time right now with several things -- an extended family problem, possible car problems, and for some reason this nagging fear that I've had ever since our youngest turned 6 last month.
She was given an experimental drug when she was a baby because she was neutropenic, and we were warned that because the drug really was meant for cancer patients who underwent chemo, they don't know what it would do to her body long-term. We were warned that she MIGHT develop leukemia at some point.
And so lately I've just been so preoccupied with this thought, and I know the fear comes from the evil one, but it comes at the oddest times (like tonight when I was watching her rearrange ornaments on the Christmas tree) and it is such an overpowering feeling that I feel so helpless, and I'm not fighting it very well. Please say a Hail Mary or two for me if you get the chance. Thank you so much!

Dear Stef - I am praying for you. I have written down a lot of bible verses about overcoming fear - and when I feel fearful I just read those and meditate on them. I also am making a conscious effort to "pray through the day" - and this helps to keep those horrid thoughts away.
I will add you to my prayers.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love and a sound mind"
"If God is for us who can be against us"
"Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanskgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which passes all understanding will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus"

My friend, you are doing very well under very difficult circumstances. Be gentle with yourself, please.
When I am in a time of extreme stress, inevitably that is exactly when my mind will lock into a fearful thought. It is as if in my weakened state, my mental discipline slips and the mechanisms that are ususally in place to thwart the thoughts, are not there. One of the ways I fight these thoughts directly is by recognizing them and saying (out loud if circumstances permit,) "In the name of Jesus, be gone." Sometimes it feels like quite a physical activity, a pushing away the thought, a distancing myself from the thought. No wonder this is all exhausting! A companion prayer is, "Jesus I trust in You."

Thank you for posting this request, stef. I just realized that I'm currently struggling with 2 fear-based thoughts that seem to tag-team in my mind . Identifying them for what they are is half the battle! I'm joining you in prayer that together we can find the peace of God. Thanks for posting your prayers, Marilyn.

Thank you so much for all your prayers! Meditating on Jesus' name last night before bed helped a lot. And I am feeling much better this morning.
I'm putting post-its around my usual hang-outs (kitchen, laptop) to remember those prayers, Angie and Marilyn. Thanks so much!
I think it goes with the "trying harder to be holy" thing. In December our family agreed on a concerted effort to improve our spiritual life by praying more with each other daily, sacrificing more, and REALLY doing our best to fight off temptation. The graces have been flowing continuously, esp. ever since my Consecration on the 8th, but it seems also that the more we try, the more the attacks come, and from totally unexpected events and circumstances, it seems. Before Yena turned 6 I hardly ever thought of this, or thought about it with fear.
My family appreciates your prayers as well!
We continue to pray for your intentions also. Thanks so much.
