What a bummer, Jenn!
Have you considered just getting a really nice jogging type stroller instead of a carrier??? One of those really nice ones that is fairly slim and easy to push or pull behind the grocery cart. I know it's not a baby wearing option, but it would help you out during the shopping. This sounds so frustrating, Jenn. Prayers that you can work this out soon. Little Nicholas will be big enough soon to fit better in the ergo, maybe just a little time to wait this stage out? Prayers in the meantime. Did your mastitis/plugged duct ever clear up completely??

Thanks, Jennifer. It's just a bit cumbersome, but things are working out okay. Mastitis seems to be gone, although yesterday I was having pain and thinking it might be coming back. The Triduum IS exhausting! But we're all happy and fine and healthy over here right now. Like my son says, "I'm happy because Jesus is risen!"

Jenn, I'm sorry I never answered your question about the mei tai.
I find it to be supportive. The straps can cross in the back when it is on the front (they can when its on the back, too, but then there are breast squishing issues which is an issue for you with your mastitis). More of the weight is on your shoulders than with an Ergo, but I tie under baby's bum once they are a bit heavier, and it is quite a bit more snuggly than the Ergo.
For me, the Ergo on the front is a bit cumbersome because the baby is higher, it isn't as easily adjusted down (the mei tai, I can loosen and tighten much quicker by untying and retying allowing for easy nursing--the ergo, I could tighten easily enough, but loosening is an issue), plus, I personally hate reaching behind and buckling that stupid (but necessary, lol) buckle on my back.
A mei tai is MUCH more comfy than the Baby Bjorn ime. The baby faces in as with the ergo; so, his center of gravity is more a part of your own rather than hanging awkwardly away from your body.
