That is discouraging. Our priest made sure to mention that it was a Holy Day of Obligation and that attending the mass for the HDO would not count for Sunday mass.

We're attending the vigil on Friday and First Friday mass in the morning. Just to cover all bases.

Well, that would be very discouraging!
I am wondering. Isn't it *required* to have Mass on Holy Days? If you were to call your diocese, and leave a message for the Bishop, what would happen? Maybe he doesn't even know that this is happening. If he does, and doesn't disagree, of course, that's another set of problems!
I am not one to start trouble, but this is a vital part of being Catholic! The precepts of the Church are not optional.
Now, I know not all parishes have priests available for every *extra* Mass. That would be understandable.
This sounds different, and just feels so wrong to me!
If it were me, I would call the diocese office and complain. You could ask to remain anonymous. Following up with an email couldn't hurt either. In fact, if you feel that you aren't getting anywhere, let us know. I am sure that a few of us could send an email ourselves, letting them know how we feel about ignoring Our Lady's feast day! (Respectfully, of course!)

I'm glad I wasn't the only confused one this weekend! Our bulletin stated that the Feast would be celebrated at noon on Sunday, and cancelled the normal Saturday scheduled masses. So we attended the noon celebration which was in Spanish.

I'm thinking our strange schedule is a result of how very ill our ancient Irish priest, Father Seamus is right now though, he winters in Key West and returns to Ireland after Easter when things warm up over there. Our Polish priest was moved to the mainland over the summer and that leaves only Father John...

On the plus side we now know how to say Immaculate Conception in Spanish - so lovely.

Caroline, I would look into Our Lady of Peace Parish as well. I'm originally from San Jose too and I grew up going to this parish. It is so different from most other parishes in San Jose!

Jessica, as you've read, I grew up in San Jose too
and we moved to Colorado in 2000. I have two boys. We live in Conifer.
