Same here.....not that I've ever worn skirts much. They're very uncomfortable, and extremely impractical for me.
I think one can be feminine and modest and wear pants/jeans. I love the Flylady's uniform that she speaks of for the everyday homemaker. It's a nice pair of jeans (could be khakis or black pants, etc.), a nice (modest) t-shirt or turtleneck (in cold weather), and dressed to the shoes/sneakers (to be more productive). She says make up on (or at least wash your face and moisturize), and you'll feel great and look just wonderful, and will be able to accomplish many things. This is the uniform I'm aiming for.
Cay, the article looks great. I only skimmed it, but this paragraph stuck out to me, and I shouted, AMEN!
"Women once complained about being reduced to sex objects. Now, their daughters are volunteering to be sex objects. And while parents register disapproval, they often fail to take action. In that failure, they unwittingly place their daughters at risk by allowing them to bypass girlhood. When a daughter moves straight from little girl to woman, she's playing a role rather than gradually learning to live her own life. These girls may seem whole, but they aren't. There is often a lost girl inside."
I've said that so often! Women ask men to respect them, then act disrespectfully by taunting them with provocative clothing! And WHY ARE THE PARENTS ALLOWING THIS??? It's a symptom of the culture we live in, sad to say.
It gets more and more difficult to find appropriate clothing, and to deal with girls doing this to MY SONS!!! Having two teenage boys, and a young girl, seeing the challenge to both is just totally incredible in a bad way!
We must speak out, and fight against it! That's the only way!
Sarah, our 10yo daughter LOVES to do fashion designing. She sits with her sketch book a lot, and designs fun, neat clothing, which is mostly appropriate. It's amazing how influenced they are by what they see though!
She and I talk about it a LOT! I told her one time, maybe God will ask you to be a fashion designer who designs hip happening clothes that are modest! She thought that was a neat idea!
It's nice that our kids can see some of the problems in the world, and to talk to them about how they can be one of the ones to change it.

Hi! I have finally had some real time to enjoy the boards and I think I like it here! When I was in Steubenville, we always wore modest skirts or dresses- to Mass at the very least. I really do not remember ever wearing pants to Mass, even daily Mass. My boys wear a modified "uniform" of navy pants and solid color polos (whatever I find on sale) on school days. I really can't get into the skirt thing- mainly because I do not like being thought of as being an "Apostolic Christian" (big religious sect that originated here- women wear mainly jean skirts or other skirts that I normally would wear!) I wear kahaki or black pants, with button front long sleeve shirts, polos, or nice Hanna Andersson sweaters that I find on ebay. I have a few comfy pairs of BORN shoes that look nice but are sturdy and last forever! Maybe it is because of the unique religious group that is around here- but I feel that skirts draw more attention to me- and I threw out my denim ones after I got so tired of explaining that I was Catholic and not "one of them!" (although it COULD be a good witnessing tool I suppose!)

PS- I have reynaurds (sp) disease- which has only gotten worse as I age and with each pregnancy. Basically I have very poor circulation and my hands and feet are almost always blue- even with many layers on. so, dh said he would rather have me functioning than feminine- and believe me- with all the layers I pile on in the winter- I am VERY modest! Elizabeth, Iwould not see any of my kids soccer games in the late Fall if Ihad to wear a skirt!

Maria -- these are great skirts and prices are good too! Thanks for posting -- it's hard to find unslinky, or unslit skirts for the girls!
Blessings

Yes, they are pretty! It's so hard to find skirts that will fit my daughter's waist. She's so skinny, they often fall down. I need to find skirts that have the elastic waists so they stay on her! Otherwise, they'd be modest in a totally different way!

I just thought I'd mention that I bought the first skirt that Maria mentioned above for my two older girls. I think they are still available for $9.99 in the stores too.
The skirt is long, black and velvety, with a ruffle at the bottom and a satin ribbon belt. My three older girls needed a long black skirt and a white top or blouse for our parish children's choir. It turns out that almost half of the girls found the same skirt at Target! They really do look great.
The thing I wanted to warn Tracy about this that they run a bit large. My 2nd dd needed to pin the size 10/12 skirt, even though that size usually fits her fine. (Of course, if I didn't learn about the size issue on the day of the dress rehearsal, I would have brought it back for an exchange. But it was too late, so we just pinned it.)
