January 3rd update: I just dropped my son off at the local Catholic school. My daughter and I are starting our new homeschooling adventure together. She misses her brother terribly, and so do I. I had no idea this was going to be so brutally hard...

Another update about Christopher. He at long last had surgery yesterday to remove the tumor and affected organs. The following is from his mother with her permission:
"Christopher is stable now and pain is finally under control. They have to take it slow on pain meds because of breathing issues. He is sleeping soundly now.
The surgery was longer than expected. We left him at noon and finally got to see him in recovery at 5:30. Very long day.
Tumor was larger than expected and splayed around several important organs. In addition to taking out the kidney, the adrenal gland, the lymph nodes they also had to take out part of the diaphragm and spleen.
We had to come in Wednesday night so he could have blood transfusion before the surgery.
As for me, I am maintaining enough to help take care of Christopher from moment to moment and that is about it. Haven't quite digested the entire event yet. I will do that later when Christopher is all better. (Christopher's dad) is being the rock and taking care of business.
Please feel free to share any or all of this."
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us.

Routine? What routine? A routine is sounding really good about right now!
I tried working at the office last week for a few days, but we very quickly decided that isn't the answer. Now I'm going to work at home as much as I can. My husband says whatever I get done is gravy. I have to fight my tendency to want to do 'more', which is always defined as whatever I'm doing now, plus. I can do what I can do, every day, and that's what I can do.
Thankfully my son is doing very well with school. My daughter does well with 'school' when she has it. I get nervous despite the fact I know this is only a season and she's young. I keep thinking of the habits we should be building...
My son and his relay team made a time cut for the next level of swimming. We have two more weeks of practice, one more meet and then he's done with swimming for this season. When that very time consuming commitment drops off the schedule we'll have more evening family time, which will be great.
I talked to Cathy in the office today. Christopher is recovering well from the surgery. His chest tube has been removed , so he's able to talk without pain today, and he's generally perking up.
So we press on! Thanks all for your prayers. Cathy and Jeff wanted me to say how much they appreciate them.
