Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

lego sells robotics and we also ordered the electronic snap circuits on line. I don't like to shop either - besides cannot find anything but junk/twaddle locally. I'm trying to remember the company for the snap circuits and will post once I figure it out. The robotics are pricey. Sometimes with things like that, it becomes a group present at our house.

Yes, nothing gets just thrown out in our house. The dc do what they can to fix it, if after they have worked on it and just cannot get it to work, they love smashing it to bitty pieces to get the electronic parts to use for other things. They learn tons in the process. People have started giving us their junk, broken electronics - that is how we got a CD player - and getting it to work was a treat.

I think the Learning Company (or is it Learning Things) sells the Snap Circuits set online.

I'm pretty sure Timberdoodle still does as well. Plus they used to sell a course plan with a teacher's manual. It would make a great course on electricity!

The directions for projects that come with the Snap Circuits are very clear and informative, easy enough for my ds to follow when he was 10. I can't imagine needing a course plan and teachers manual to go along. Unless you just wanted one.

That is true, however, the course plans are much more detailed and provide instruction in regard to the science of electricity. When my husband went through the course with my boys, they were much better able to understand the "whys" behind what they were doing with the circuits.

Right, of course. I was just saying that if it was for a gift for a 10 year old, then I wouldn't want folks to think it was so complicated they HAD to teach a course to use it. It is enjoyable and informative as-is.
The course actually sounds really cool.

Ooooh, Brenda, Thanks for the tip. It appears Elenco still offers the teacher's guide for sale. Scroll down about 3/4 of the page to view.

To get back to the original topic, I've been allowing my boys (ages 13, 10, and 8) to go on "explores" ~ can you tell we've read Pooh? They seem much more ready and willing to take on the rest of their relatively otherwise sedentary days when they know that in the afternoon they can run around, experience nature, and have a little autonomy. I'm always close at hand. They need to come home at predetermined times and they've proven that, within five minutes, they can do that. I've been tempted to offer up my cell phone in case of a twisted ankle or some other reason I might need to pick them up, but so far, I haven't done it. I really need to.

Besides this, they play basketball at scouts. Sorry I didn't have a whole lot of time to post before. I was just able to sneak a link in.
