Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Books, if you have an Aveda salon in your area, I would highly recommend checking them out. Their products are excellent, they are natural and their stylist are professionals. Aveda maintains a high standard of product and salons. Even my dh, who is a Suave kind of guy, used my Aveda shampoo one day and was very impressed!

I am so glad for this thread. I almost never get my hair cut (maybe once a year, or when my husband makes an appointment for me ). I usually just pull it up while wet (not exactly great for hair, but neither is blowdrying it! ) I wish I could go in somewhere and have somebody show me how to do different things with my hair so I'm not always doing the same ponytail or twisted wet bun. <sigh> It sounds from the posts here as though maybe I could find and develop a relationship with a good stylist who could do this. There's hope!

I always go loaded for bear, I cut out tons of photos from magazines of hair I like and then I write on it what I like about it - the layers here, or the length there, front views, back views, side views - I think it is super helpful to see what you're talking about.

I did this very same thing when I had my wedding dress made! I want these shoulders, this neckline, that bustle, ... but my HAIR that day (getting back to the topic) was done by my sister's hairdresser. I had a pillbox hat with a veil (another sister's). This hairdresser put my hair up in a 50's roll with oodles of bobby pins. It was lovely. And it stayed put the whole day and night. My poor husband spent a good portion of our first night together pulling bobby pins out of my hair.

Fast forward 15 years. Since we moved here, I just made an appointment with a lady who happened to be free at a very local salon and ~ voila! ~ she's totally my speed as far as kids, conversation, age, etc. She respects what I want, even as far as when she lopped off a huge portion for Locks for Love. And she made what I had left work.

I hope you find what you're looking for, Books!
