Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Darn! I was so sure this would be it.    It sounds wonderful, so I hope someone else remembers.

I'm not familiar with a video about the nativity animals, but here is a link to a parish site with legends about the animals:

EWTN no longer plays it.

Anybody?

I can't help w/ the EWTN connection, Jen, but the children's book The Christmas Bird by Sallie Ketcham and Stacey Schuett has this legend and is featured in Christmas Mosaic.

That was a great site, Diana! Even if we don't find the program you generous ladies have supplied more than enough material to focus on some of these legends and traditions throughout Advent! Thank you all so much!

Thank you so much, Cay... I don't have Christmas Mosaic...yet so I didn't know that! A book would probably be lovelier anyway. I'm excited that my library has this! I'll definitely add it to my Christmas list this year! Thank you so much for recommending it!!!!!!!!

to all of you for helping me!

And now, I'll stop hijacking this thread and actually contribute!

I of course have to mention that I'm a schmaltz...so anything Bing or any old movie I'm a sucker for...
** White Christmas
** Come to the Stable
** Christmas in Connecticut
** Holiday Inn
** Miracle on 34th Street
** Little Women (with Winona Ryder and Susan Sarandon - few remakes are better than the older versions, this one is!)
** The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey - we really enjoyed watching this last year. It's well done. Keep kleenex near!
** Desk Set - Katharine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy - I don't know why...we just love watching this movie during the holidays
** Holiday Affair - Janet Leigh, Robert Mitchum

and....

I am a total SUCKER for all the sappy Hallmark movies they play during Advent. I have a date with Hallmark and a cup of hot chocolate every night!

and...

my husband, brother, and dad love to watch the very irreverent "A Christmas Story" - you know the one...."you'll shoot your eye out"!!!!

I wish I could join you. My dh would make me feel like a fool for indulging in them (and we don't have tv), but they are so nostalgic for me. Do you remember the one with Roma Downy called Borrowed Hearts? I loved that movie in spite of its complete sappiness and silly plot.

Of course, we watched the Christmas Box movies every year--and cried every time. I have no idea why it can be so enjoyable to be emotionally manipulated like that

I can only imagine I've missed some whoppers since I got married in 2003

Suzanne

I'll add:

- Amahl and the Night Visitors (with Teresa Stratus)
- Muppets Christmas Carol

Opera and muppets. Yeah, we're real deep here. Or maybe I should say diverse.

Just adding to the list. We watch The Homecoming every year after we put up the tree. It's the first Walton's movie.

My favorite Jane Austen to watch during the holidays is Emma. I love all the Christmas party scenes and find the natural decorations so inspiring. Everything is so warm and cozy and jolly, it makes me happy. I just put it on to clean the kitchen by

I don't think this movie has been mentioned yet so I'm adding (mentioned on another thread):

Oh, yes, that is the other one I wanted to mention, but forgot. It's about the Christmas Truce of Dec. 24, 1914 (WWI)

A fantastic movie on this is Joyeux Noel... truly great.   One of the few foreign films that held my dh's attention the whole way through.

Adding Silent Night which is along the same lines - Christmas Eve 1944 and Linda Hamilton plays a German mother who seeks refuge from the war with her son in a cabin. When American soldiers and German soldiers show up at their cabin they all manage (after many tense moments) to embrace the Christmas spirit and celebrate the holy day together. It's very moving!

Well, as a non-cable owner, I'm excited by all the Hallmark Christmas schmaltz that is FINALLY available on Netflix Instant.

Sarah reminded me of one of our favorite recent releases:

Love's Christmas Journey which is the most recent release from the Janette Oke Love Saga series.

Yeah. Love saga. Go ahead - tell your husband you want to cuddle up on the couch and watch THAT together! Just make sure you hand him a new Cabela's catalog to flip through while you watch!!!
