Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I posted about Yena's recent funny quotes at my blog but thought I'd share here:

  • This year’s Advent we tried to go to Mass daily (we made it to about 6 or so). One morning I thought we were running late and kept saying so on the way to Church. Turns out we weren’t, I had just forgotten that the clock was ahead 5 minutes. At Communion time, we stayed in our seats because we grabbed a bite on our way out and so couldn’t receive Jesus physically. Yena asks, “We can’t because we’re late?”
  • Every evening when we say our family’s night prayers together, we choose a few prayers to say after the praise-supplication-thanksgiving-petition pattern that we follow. In the beginning we’d choose a bunch of prayers to say, but more recently we’ve only picked 3 prayers (each child gets his/her turn at picking what prayers), so we can say them more slowly and meditate on the words more as we pray them. Father was in the middle of Consecration at one of the Advent masses, when Yena turns to me and says, “He’s talking too fast.” Thank goodness it was a whisper.
  • After attending Advent masses several days in a row, Yena asks me, “Why does Father wear the same clothes all the time”? (purple vestments)

I had my first baby in March. My youngest brother is four and fascinated with breastfeeding. He really wants to watch and wants to know why boys can't feed babies. I try to explain that boys can't make milk for babies but they can still be daddies and help take care of babies, etc, and only girls can grow up to be mommies -- for example, our 8yo sister can feed a baby when she grows up. So, after looking at me, then at our(obviously flat-chested) 8yo sis, then back at me, he thinks for a while and asks, a little puzzled, pointing to his own n*pples: "But when do these grow into piles?"
How practical of him!

I wanted to share a really precious moment from my father-in-law's funeral last week. Before mass, during the viewing, we had Gregorian chant playing over the pa system. It was really beautiful the way it echoed through our old church but what made me smile was 5 yr. old Peter. As we sat down in the pew he looked at me with his big blue eyes as wide as could be and asked "Mommy, is that the angels singing up there?"

Oh the sweet innocence of a child to think that we would actually be able to hear the angels singing at his grandfathers funeral!

That is very sweet, Michele.

I posted this earlier. I didn't know there was already a thread about it. Here is my funny story for today:

My poor little baby girl is lactose intolerant. She takes Lactaid chewables when needed. A few days ago my 12dd asked her what the Lactaid pills tasted like, and my sweet funny girl answered, "They taste like toilet paper."

Also today we were doing Math with linking cubes and my 8ds thought we could use our 4dd's brand new Magna Doodle to write down the multiplication facts.
She was not happy about it, and she told him, "No. I'm going to use it. Ladies first."

ok. I have another one. We had grilled cheese for dinner last night. I gave my 4dd a slice of my sandwich, after she took a Lactaid chewable, and after she finished it she said to me, "Are you nuts? This has cheese in it."

I had a funny happen today that I wanted to share. (as some back-story, when we have our children sit "cross-legged" we call that sitting "criss-cross applesauce" -- so that may be where this came from

dd4 attended her gymnastics class this AM. I overhear the conversation between her and dd17 on the way home. dd4 is telling dd17 that "she can do front applesauces, but not back applesauces. She tried and tried to do a back applesauce, but she couldn't!"
dd17 hesitates, then says, "do you mean 'somersaults'?"
dd4: "Oh, yeah. That's right!"

Later in the same car ride, dd4 is saying, quite dramatically, "I looove you! I loooove you!"
dd17: "Oh, I love you too!"
dd4: "No, Sarah, I was talking to myself!"

Guess I don't have to worry about her self-esteem too much, eh?

Gosh, it sounds fresh when I write it, but it was quite hysterical at the time.
