This is funny and sweet...
7yo ds was doing his garbage collecting chore this morning as usual. The rest of us were in the kitchen and feeling grumpy about some of the work we were facing. The baby monitor was on in my bedroom and panning into the kitchen. At first we heard just a humming coming from ds via the monitor then the volume increased. Within a short time ds was belting out the National Anthem complete with his personal lilting interpretations! Whitney Houston eat your heart out .
Love,

I don't know if this is funny or sweet or what.
I was flat out on the couch yesterday morning, telling myself that if I took deep breaths and just didn't move I might not throw up. . My ds-13 came up behind me and startled me (adrenaline is not a good thing at this point). As I was concentrating even harder on just maintaining he said, "So,since you're not busy, can you please explain the French Revolution? I mean, who were the good guys and who were the bad guys? And how did it all get started?"
Oh, is that all you want to know right now? Are there any workbooks in this house this child can do...

My ds does not like to share. He hates when his sister's interfere with the way he is playing. However, when he wants to his sisters to share something with him, he tells them "God likes it when you share."

DD... who is 2, was telling me the other day, that she is not a baby... she's a 'dirl' (girl).
So when I went to illustrate her response to DH:
ME: Are you a baby?
DD: No!
ME: What are you then?
DD: A POO!

I'm temporarily afflicted with a condition not pertinent to the story that is causing me to burp. A lot. I hate it when people burp, which is bad for me because I have a husband and three sons , but I really crack down on burp manners. Needless to say, they all think it's absolutely hysterical that Mommy seems to not be able to control her burping.
So anyway, we get back in the car yesterday after going out for pizza and my dh lets loose with a real crowd-pleasing belch (if your crowd is 8-and-under boys), and we hear my six year old from the back of van yell out, "Good one, Mom!!"

While at home, my 4 yr old's hair just is what it is...frizzy and curly and all over the place.
When we go in public, I add styling gel and either braid it in pigtails or single ponytail or roll it into a bun.
We have a b-day party to go to today so, while I was gelling her hair in the bathroom, Annie observed the bottle: "Mommy, we're almost out of jello."

Burping manners being enforced here too, esp. with 3 boys 6 and under (all body noises are hysterical...no emoticon for rolling your eyes!)...my sweet baby girl has discovered that she can get lots of attention when burping, so she does it at least 3 times at every meal (sigh). I can train the boys not to laugh, but how do you teach a 15 month old not to clap at her "creation"??
Today's "funny"...At mass the 4yo, who has been really naughty kneels down after communion to tell Jesus he is sorry for wiggling and fussing so much. I have my eyes closed and am listening (as he prays out loud). The prayer goes something like this:
"Dear Jesus,
I am sorry I wiggled so much and hollered at Joshie that I wanted to put the money in the basket today. And I need help staying in my bed at night..." (I thought the prayer ended here because there was a pause) "...oh, and thanks for inviting us to church every week. Amen."
...love those random prayers

I've been calling my older dd "Sissy" around the baby and younger boys for awhile. So my little dd has been talking for a few months and she finally got around to tyring Sissy...and it came out Ditzy. I don't think big sissy knows yet

Dd 20 months is becoming rather wild. Yesterday after completing her lunch, she pushed away her plate, picked up her placemat and sat it on dd4's head grinning hughly. I said to her,
"You're getting wild, where did I get you from?"
Dd4 drolly said,
"From the zoo."
Aren't moments like these priceless?

Our latest family addition, the cat who adopted us at Christmas, has been full of surprises. The latest is, Noel (isn't that a cute girlie Christmas name) is not female. So, the boys (after jumping up and down with joy because once again a BOY has joined the family) insisted on changing Noel's name. Dd came up with the cat's new name...Leon...Noel spelled backwards .
Love,

My 3yo dd has become fascinated with the idea that a baby is growing inside me. We have had many conversations about it in the past few days that include questions from her, a look at my tummy with the comment: "I don't see a baby", and a kiss to my tummy. It is adorable.
Yesterday, she asked something about the baby and I said something like, "You can't see the baby, he or she is growing inside me, hidden inside my womb."
Well, she must have thought I had a temporary speech impediment because she responded with her cute 3yo stutter:
"In, in, in . . . your bedroom?"

Oh I have one!
Last week dd Maggie (who is 6) told me she wanted us to have another baby and said "this time I think it would be really neat if we had a Chinese baby." Trying very hard not to burst out laughing I explained to her that to have a Chinese "tummy" baby either mommy or daddy would have to be Chinese...and we're not. She was clearly disappointed and replied "Oh, I was hoping the baby could teach us Spanish". Again, trying not to laugh I said "do you mean Chinese?" Realizing her mistake she said "Oh yes that's what I meant!" and then I had to disappoint her again and explain to her that babies aren't born knowing how to speak the language of their ethnicity. It really was adorable!

So Michele,
Why a Chinese baby? Are you doing a rabbit trail on China at present? Are you also learning Spanish?

Nope no rabbit trails on China but I think it's because it's not uncommon here (as I'm sure is true in many areas) to see a Caucasian mommy and daddy with Chinese children. We have several in our parish so I guess she just figures that's normal (and it is!)and sometimes you get one like that.
We ARE learning Spanish (and Latin) so I guess she wants to expand her language repertoire!
Bless her heart, last night she was talking to my oldest son on the phone when he had her say the Our Father and Hail Mary in Spanish and Latin for another seminarian. He was throughly impressed and she was quite proud.

Your daughter is not alone - one of my 92yo grandmother's favorite stories is about her sister, who when my grandmother was born, burst into inconsolable tears and protested, "I wanted a Chinese baby!"

A few weeks ago, we were riding home from a field trip. My 2yo ds turned to my dd’s 12yo friend sitting next to him and said in his sweet sing-song voice, “What’s your name, Elizabeth? Elizabeth, what’s your name?” Now, his 5 older sisters and I think that he is the best thing since sliced bananas, and we all roared with laughter. Of course, this only encouraged him to repeat the phrase about twenty more times. After a while, I noticed that Elizabeth was the only one who never laughed.
Elizabeth does not have a 2yo brother, and she certainly doesn’t appreciate the humor of one. Poor thing.
Last night Elizabeth was visiting for dinner. Being the smart and antagonistic little boy that he is, Charlie opened the conversation with “What’s your name, Elizabeth? Elizabeth, what’s your name?” She shot him a forced smile through clenched teeth. Seeking to provide a distraction, I turned to my little boy and said, “What’s your name, Charlie? Charlie, what’s your name?” And he responded, in a very matter-of-fact way, “Charlie.” Of course.
He knows how to take a good joke.
