Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This was my experience with wheat.

Mari, I'm finding all of this very interesting. Can you suggest a reading list or links?

Mari,

Can you list the foods that help the body move toward alkaline and those toward acidic? I adore lemons and read that they neutralize the system, and DO feel better when I ingest a lot of fresh lemon juice (which perplexes me as I thought lemons *were*, as all citrus fruits are, very acidic!). I am sure I eat/drink mostly acidic....

Thank you for your help!

Hi - I am not a MD or anything so please always listen to what your own body is telling you.

I would suggest for those in the US or anywhere else to look at Dr Mercola's site. I must admit sometimes I would prefer a different tone but there is a lot of good food for thought... sorry

The rest of the stuff I have read is in French books, in organic food magazines and stuff and also when I do trips to the UK I read about things here and there - but there must be much more information available, I imagine, in the US.

When I learned a lot about homeopathy and other natural methods, I learned about the importance of keeping the body alkaline. I really wanted my Mom to keep an alkaline diet because of joint problems. Eventually she did. Her condition improved, she recognised this but then dropped back to her previous eating habits and it got bad again.

As far as I know these foods can make up an alkaline diet:
lots and lots of vegetables
goat's milk / yogurt raw is best
pulses (peas, beans, lentils)
oats, brown rice, buckwheat
whole wheat (but allergies)
fruit both fresh and dried except tomatoes and citrus fruit should be limited (they do become alkaline but take time)
unrefined virgin coconut oil
unrefined virgin olive oil
potatoes (but its sugars are terrible)
Molasses
herbal teas
unpasturised apple cider vinegar
miso soup
nuts ( avoid peanuts ground nuts - allergies)

You body can assimilate calcium for your bones from lettuce and green leaf vegetable. If you do some research, you will realise that the body does not assimilate calcium from your regular milk and cheese nor mineral waters; In fact, although often a mineral water company will promote the fact that there is a high calcium level this is propaganda...it is promoting the bad points (it is not good for your body - builds up stones/calcium deposits and the like) and bluffing you into thinking it is a good point.

Thanks for asking me to share. I really would love people to be encouraged to look take responsibility for their health from the basics (already giving your body what it needs and avoiding what harms you - and we are all different) rather than leave that up to someone else whose solution could easily be to take loads of vitamin pills, fill you up with expensive medications and the like.

I hope that this may help someone get back in touch with their self! When I go on travels and eat poorly, I feel the results in a week...lethargic, allergies come back, etc

Blessings

Thank you for sharing, Mari! I found a couple of Mercola's books in my library. There is so much that gets covered up by a lot of flashy advertising and for most of us is another topic that we take for granted. This will make some really good conversation at this house of convenient eating!

Blessings,
