Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have to tell you, I really surprised myself at what came out of my mouth that day!

Although I had a powerpoint, you may have noticed it was only an outline. That's all I had!
So, my talk was totally off the cuff and I never knew what I was going to say about each topic until I said it.
And as a result I am afraid I let the cat out of the bag about just how quirky and odd I really am!
It will be "interesting" to see the DVD!

Theresa -- I'm dying to see you quirky and in full color on DVD!!

Sorry Cay -- I didn't see your comment! No confusion!! Here's a link to Michele's beautifully designed site for her Family-Centered Home Education conference here. I'm sure it will be Charlotte Mason/4Real style!!

As to the second Real Learning conference... we (the committee) wanted to get through the weekend, look at the evaluations, do a search and recovery on our houses (although I guess I should speak for myself there) , then get together and plan the next one -- since this was a first time adventure!!

We plan to get together soon (after we get our families back in order), pow-wow about how our first conference went, and then go from there!! I'm sure we'll post any future plans here as we know them!!

By the way -- I loved seeing all the photos for the Southern 4Real conference. The tea cups and menu struck me as so lovely and gentile!! It's so neat to think that many 4Real members (and lurkers) were getting together across the country to talk Learning and the Faith all on one day!

There have been so many conferences this year led or assited by our members! MaryM's Rocky Mountain conference (sorry Mary, I can't remember the real name) and then the Minnesota gals had their conference (I can't remember that name either) -- in addition to the mini-4Real and the Real conference!!And I'm sure there are more that I don't realize! Way to go 4Real Ladies!!

Okay -- I'd better get back to my house, I'm totally procrastinating.

We finally arrived home last night. I had a great time at the conference. There were only two things that bothered me ... leaving and not getting to meet more of you lovely ladies!

I so enjoyed all the talks that I attended. Elizabeth's last talk was so inspirational to me and I have really taken it to heart. I enjoyed meeting those of you that I feel I already know. Jenn, I thought that you looked great and I certainly hope that you are feeling better now.

My dh rushed me out to mass so that we could drive down to Williamsburg that evening. I did not get to submit requests for CDs or DVDs so I hope that the opportunity will present itself here soon.

You ladies did an amazing job. And I am so glad that I was able to attend. I look forward to hearing more about next years conference. And maybe I will be able to attend ... as of today, it is official--we are moving to Wales. I am so excited.

I had a great time at the conference. It reaffirmed all the reasons why I am chosing to continue to homeschool and it was nice to put faces with the names I see so often here at the site. My only regret is that since it takes me awhile to warm up to talk to people, by the time I was ready to introduce myself, the conference was over. Oh well that was my fault. All the talks were wonderful and everyone was so nice. I hope to be part of it somehow next year.

Glad you could come Tracy!! If it's any consolation, I didn't get a chance to introduce myself either... and I'm outgoing!! So that's my resolve too: next time!!

Sorry I am late adding my encomiums...my computer has been woggy and I'm using dh's.

I have to say I felt a bit conspicuous travelling all the way from SC with only the baby......downright indulgent really. Folks would say to me "You came all the way from SC???" I am now unabashed! I did travel all the way from SC and it was good for me and I am glad I did. There!

The conference was sooooo restorative for me and helped to solidify some waffley notions that were going on in my head about my commitment to a Real Learning type of homeschooling for our family. I came home refreshed and revivified.

One of the nicest parts of the whole business however by and far was meeting so many of you lovely ladies. I am a borderline "lurker" on these forums, but I read often and feel like I know so many of you. It was like coming to a reunion. You were all so very welcoming and just downright "good" to me. I blush.

MaryChris you are as good as gold.....you smiled patiently through my goofup and offered me extra hospitality into the bargain. Elizabeth...your family is just as I thought it would be...the fruits of your faith and love are palpable. Thankyou for your kindness. Meredith, Dawn, Theresa, Mary Ellen, Ruth...it was such a pleasure to get to know you a bit...I wish there would have been more time. And, of course, meeting Chicken Lady...aka Molly...was a highlight for me as well. I wish you didn't live so darned far away!

God bless all of the hard work you ladies did...it really paid off.

Fondly,
Kathleen

Kathleen, meeting you and that sweet, no-fuss, adorable curly-headed little baby girl was pure joy for me!! I wish we could have had more time, my mantra of late...Glad you had a safe trip home!

Blessings!

I am chiming in here rather late as well. I had such a lovely time! The highlight for me had to be meeting so many lovely ladies, and getting to see a dear old friend who was transplanted from here to Virginia a couple of years ago. My biggest regret is not getting to meet *more* of the lovely ladies there. The day flew by! So many of you were there that I didn't even *know* were there until I checked back here!

Thank you to all who worked so hard organizing, planning, and pulling off the conference!

I had to laugh at this, X-Hail, because I was nodding "yes, yes, yes!" as Theresa spoke -- I too want to learn more about fungus and keep checking out field guides that I never find time to actually peruse! (Now, unlike Theresa, there are *many* other areas of nature that are gaping holes in my educational hammock... but slowly I hope to fill some of these.)

Theresa -- I loved your talk. I could never have spoken "off the cuff," though dh Tim certainly encouraged me to go in that direction! (Where's the shaking in my shoes emoticon?)

Which I *loved.* Reminded me of Alice and of my family up in NYC. :)

Are the talks available in written form somewhere or will they be? What about tapes?

Many of the talks are available in written form, Lisa.

I know FOR SURE that Dawn, Meredith and Jenn have links on their blog to their talks. (Maybe I'll start a new topic requesting those links in one place!) But I believe Rachel May has files of the talks. You can pm her about it.

We just arrived home from the conference...well, from the conference and the vacation after the conference.

What a wonderful, wonderful conference it was. I cried when I thanked my husband for letting me talk him into the trip...I feel renewed! I was so nervous about walking in by myself (I am such an introvert), but everyone was so welcoming and kind I ended up feeling right at home.

Thanks again to everyone who had a hand in putting it together. You did a tremendous job!

Patty - it was great to meet you. I'm so glad you enjoyed it... and your vacation after the fact.
