I was so thrilled to find this book at the thrift store on 1/2 price day a few weeks back. I have found almost all my TdP books at thrift and used book stores, usually for $1.50 or less.

I have The Friendly Beasts. It's okay but I prefer his The First Christmas book. There is very little text - the text is the lyrics to the Old English Carol of the same name. A lot of the pages are wordless, but of course they have classic dePaola illustrations which are lovely.

Noah and the Ark

Since I hadn't seen this one either and it was available through our state library loan system, I requested it. Just got it and it would be worth the search I believe. It's a shame some of these older titles aren't easier to find.

It's classic dePaola and the story is well told with a somewhat repeating line of "So Noah did what God said." Loved dePaola's "flood" pages - how he depicted the rolling sea (there is a two page spread with nothing but water/waves - not even the ark is pictured). It really is a strong image. I also liked how he did the rainbow at the end.

We are reading 51 Fairmont Avenue as a read aloud. We borrowed it from our local library. We also borrowed Pascual and the Kitchen Angels, which I was so pleased with. The short biography of St. Pascual at the end, which mentions his love of the Eucharist, is so nice to see in a public Library.

We have several Tomie books. We read the Bible Stories in the evenings before bed. We like the Strega Nona stories, but the fact that she is a witch has my children questioning why I let them read it.

One Tomie book I was very displeased with was "The Bubble Factory." The children disobey and disregard rules specifically set for them. The issue is not even addressed, in fact, the children are rewarded!
