Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I do see your point, Eleanor. Thanks for clarifying.
I guess I am just coming from the angle that we ALL fall so short of what God intends for us. In that sense, we are all in the same boat, striving to fulfill those "fundamental needs" as best we can.

God has placed in ALL of His Creatures a desire to know and worship their Creator. But we, His Creation, do not always know how or whom to offer worship. At the time the Chosen People were wandering around in the desert, the Egyptians were worshiping RA, the sun god. God chose to reveal Himself to the Israelites, but not to the Egyptians. Their culture is no less worthy of discussion, but their manner of worship is missing the Divine Revelation, so it is skewed and misdirected.

God chooses to reveal Himself in perfect ways that are not necessarily understood by us, but in all things, we know He desires that ALL of His children be reunited with Him in heaven. So, we can trust those seemingly lost cultures to His Mercy, while prudently avoiding some details of a particular culture that might be brutal or horrific to a young child.

There are many cultures, past and present, that are worth discussing, but all must be viewed through the discerning lens of Holy Mother Church. She provides the perspective and the example of charity, respect, and compassion. In all things...love.

I do love the imagery of the Good Shepherd here. He longs to have ALL the sheep in the sheepfold. Some wander away, some get lost, some never knew their way to the sheepfold, some worship rats . But The Good Shepherd knows each of them, wherever they are, and calls them by name.

I agree. Much more eloquently said than I could ever manage.
