Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am the mastitis queen! I can't tell you how many times I have had it throughout my 16 years of nursing but what has helped me the best is cabbage and lecithin. Of course, i know its time to slow down and rest more when I get one. Its your bodies way of telling you to take care of yourself so you can take care of all of your little ones.

Well the lumps are gone (I think!)! PTL!!! It happened sometime yesterday. BUT Amelia was nursing really weird on that side (maybe due to the salty taste of mastitis milk) and I have the biggest crack with a scab. Sooo, it's still painful to nurse. She does not like the Lansinoh ointment, but I did wear it last night all night so that it would help me heal.

I'm praying to really be careful about recurrence. I'm so glad to have had this support. You don't know what it has meant to me!

So glad to hear that the lumps are gone, Ana. Lansinoh can be very helpful in healing, but when there are actually cracks you might want to consider a topical antibiotic ointment to prevent another infection from entering again as that can be a pathway. A suggestion it to apply a thin layer of topical antibiotic ointment such as Bactoban or Polysporin to nipples after feedings alternated with the Lansinoh.

Because antibiotic ointment is only minimally absorbed into the skin, almost none passes into the milk. And although a baby may ingest a small amount while nursing, the drug is metabolized so quickly that it cannont accumulate in the baby's system and is therefore considered safe (Dr. Thomas Hale, Medications and Mothers Milk)
