Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just mentioned it to Court. He recommended taking 29 down to 64, then 64 to 95. I am pretty sure you can even then take 295 from 64 around Richmond.

This isn't going to be around July 4th, is it? That would only make it worse.

Sorry to sound so pessimistic. We have lived in the shadow of 95 for years now!

I just got home. 10 hours each way with a baby. I sat in the back seat the entire time because baby wanted only me. Every mama who has ever nursed a baby in a car seat can sympathize with me when I say my ribs are sore.

My perspective on this is simple (and you already know it because we talked on the phone), find a way to not do it. You are already exhausted and sick. You have a very full schedule. Your baby does not like being in the car.

You will have an extra driver but he isn't your husband he's your son and since he has far less experience you will be watching him carefully and nervously from the back seat as you hunch over that car seat. You know I am right. I know you don't want to bail on everyone but this just isn't a good option for you and is it really fair to expect an 8 month old who doesn't like the car to be in it for so long?

My Mary was a car screamer and as she got older she always got carsick. it turns out she was quite far sighted and my eye doctor said it's very likely she cried in the car as a baby because she actually felt sick. I don't know and it may have just been a case of wanting to be OUT of the car and carseat but it's something to consider.

I just talked to my dh and he agreed with me - find another option this isn't a good choice for you.

I am praying.

I'm sticking with my taco advice but Michele is talking sense. This is too much. Sounds like you are so used to putting others first that you don't realize it when doing something isn't right for your family.

Elizabeth, I am the most intrepid of drivers (I drive from MD to Indianapolis in one day, every year), but I would not do this either. The Baby Factor makes it too difficult.

29 to 64 is a good road (2 lanes in each direction) but between Gainesville and Charlottesville there aren't too many places to stop, just gas stations here and there. Same for I-64 from C'ville to I-295, and I-295 around Richmond itself. You would end up getting off the interstate and driving a mile or two (more if you're unlucky) to find even a McDonald's.

Even with my two older dc, I don't think this is a trip I would try in the summer months...I get very tired after one 350 mile day, and you're talking about four in the space of a week or so.

Could you fly down with Karoline for one overnight, just you? (Southwest flies from BWI to Jax.) By the time you add up gas and meals and stress and car repair, you could probably just zip down there...I know it means leaving your other beloved children (and I'm sure you don't want to do that), but in terms of safety and sanity, maybe it's an alternative.

I am adding my prayers to everyone's...

The place I would stop is Ft. Bragg, but they've closed the post since 9/11 so that not just anyone can get on it. So, no advice (I did that drive from Ft. Eustis, VA once with 2 and pregnant with my third). It's not fun, but it was worth it.

I will be praying for you. And, if you get that list form Bridget's sidebar to the shrine, I would be so grateful.

There is a nice FREE museum in downtown Fayetteville, but its farther off of 95 than you might want to go. However, I live there, and if you would like to meet somewhere near Fayetteville and have the dc run each other ragged, let me know. I don't live TOO far from 95, and you are more than welcome to come by here and stretch, use a clean bathroom, get some decent water, whatever. Being an hour and a half from Florence SC, about 1/2 an hr, 45 min from the border, its a decent spot to stop...

As far as the interesting signs...sadly, they are all along the interstate between my home and my parish church (north of us on 95). I find praying a Hail Mary for the people who are trapped by that sort of thing, as well as praying that the place is closed down, and that the people working there find other more productive work, and that the building itself is used for something productive for the community (a rural area).....that makes it bearable.

Anyway, pm me if youd like a possible stop off point.

Rachel

Rachel would know better, but here as long as we're Threatcon Alpha, non military types can get on post only showing their DL, no mine mirrors or unloading even. If Ft. Bragg is of interest.

We drove down on Sun/Mon, May 20, 21 and back Thurs/Sat May 24/26 (Memorial Day weekend) and had no bad traffic. Maybe we were just blessed?

Yeah, they'll want to look inside your car...and see ID, etc. Itd take a few minutes to get on post, but its not really a HUGE big deal.

Are you talking Gainesville VA? I hate to say it-- Rt. 29, construction and traffic. It stinks.

We do the 95 thing several times a year, we usually stop in SC, once all the way to Clearwater.

But...here's a tip my hubby started me on, you'll feel odd at first, but it's great! Stop at hotels to use the bathrooms, not a restaurant (they'll beg for food/drink) or gas stations . We just park at a hotel, walk into the lobby and look for the restrooms, there are always some. They are very, very clean, always cool and you can take a little break on a couch in the lobby while waiting for the others!

Just a small tip.

And on another note, my littlest screamed all the time in the car. We haven't gone anywhere really with her, she is 2 now. This summer will be a big test to Charleston SC, I think she's over the big screaming...but good luck to Florida! Definitely start prepping her Guardian Angel (and yours!) now!
