Merril (I think that is how you spell it) shoes have very cute styles and they have support.
I too have PF...painful!!!
I stretched and wore my tennies, or my merrel walking sandles and just my cuter shoes when going out. the pain subsided and I only have pain sometimes.... like when I go barefoot too much of wear flip flops too much.
prayers for relief...

Michele, you don't have to buy special shoes. When I was diagnosed with this several years ago, I went to a medical supply company and bought special inserts(I chose to keep them in my sneaks), that really helped a lot. I am more careful now to not go too many days without my Birks and I am ok. DH has it now

Michelle,
You have my prayers. I have been dealing with PF for almost a year now. I am going to look into some of the shoes mentioned in this thread. I did order a boot that I put on at night and some good insoles. I think he catalog is Foot Smart. I will try and post the link later.

I finally went to the doctor today and learned that going barefoot is not a good idea with heel spurs. I'm sorry ! But I did learn that wearing shoes with somewhat of a heel is very helpful as it takes pressure off the heel, so you may be able to still wear some of those cute shoes, Michele! I went to the shoe store right after my appointment . Also, my doctor gave me foot splints to wear at night as fortunately they are covered by our health insurance. My doctor said that heel spurs do go away with stretching, proper shoes/support, etc. although they may flare up occasionally.
HTH!

I didn't know that heel spurs were the same thing as PF?!? I always thought of Pf as a muscle thing, and spurs as a bone thing.
And Brenda, I would agree, when mine flares, I need good supportive shoes. But if I'm not in pain, I'm in barefeet!

Yes all part of the same thing apparently. I have been wearing supportive shoes and doing the stretches. It is remarkably better. I haven't been going barefoot and I think I'm going to order these for the summer.

Oooooh, Michelle! I have those exact shoes in black. Love them! If you haven't worn shoes like these before, just know that it takes about a week to break them in. My feet were sore the first few days, but they do break in!
Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Well, I chickened out and bought these instead. I realized that with all the walking I will be doing (conferences etc.) I needed a back strap. They arrive Monday - hopefully they will be what I need. I can't tell you how many shoes I have returned because they pinch or rub the top of my foot (I have a high instep). We'll see.

Michele,
FYI New Balance shoes are good shoes for high arches. I have PF in both feet!!!! After many months of trying to ignore it I just happened to mention it on a visit to my orthopedic Dr. He checked out my feet and sent me to get special insoles. After just a few days the pain was gone. No more tears when my feet hit the floor in the AM. I don't have to wear the tennis shoes much now but in the beginning I wore them daily. Now whenever I feel a little tenderness I wear them. Also flex your feet as often as possible. This really stretches the tendon well. Good luck. It appears we are not alone in this foot sufferage.

I came across this article this morning. I thought it might be helpful.
This hospital has a sports medicine clinic that's been around since for ~30 years. The doc's here are mostly grads of Johns Hopkins' medical school, and they work with pro athletes.
