The only thing that makes the spindle box special is that it illustrates the concept of "zero" pretty well. Otherwise I like using the cards & counters (so much easier to make) and the bead stair for counting.

I'd love to see a picture of your spindle box, though!

I'll try to post a picture of my Spindle Box of Shame this weekend. I was so excited to make it and in such a hurry; I don't know what I was thinking. It's bad... truly Montessori gone awry. To give you a hint... I forgot to start with zero
