That sounds like jolly good advice Angie. There is almost an instability in this health care provider's actions, and he needs to be made accountable for his behaviour. (In the sense he cannot handle resonable objection to his recommendations.) He sounds like a loose cannon and others will probably suffer in the future in this man's care.
I have dealt with similar 'characters' to the detriment of an important diagnosis for myself years ago, that had long term health ramifications...

Krisann, praying -- so sorry. We've refused treatment options several times. That doctor was way out of line. How hard for your daughter too.
Angie, great advice. I'm bookmarking this topic just as a reminder. It's nice to have those recourses if it ever is necessary.

Krisann -
That is an outrageous reaction. And it's hospital policy? I'm sure if you go public, you will find lots of others who have been victimized in this way.
Praying that Emily feels better soon and that this whole thing gets resolved in a way that leads to a more reasonable policy for that hospital.
Peace,
Nancy

I'm so sorry about the overbearing doc and that you are being subjected unnecessary scrutiny. Praying for you all, incl. your ailing daughter.

I'll add your family to my prayers. One of my family is a credentialist of physicians (approves them for staff or not) at a large hospital; if there's anything I can ask of her PM me. It almost seems like s*x*al harrassment.

Krisann,
This is insane! I'm so sorry you're having to go thru this.
Keep standing up for your rights as a parent. I would definitely try to expose this ridiculous "hospital policy" to the public.
Prayers and hugs,
Jane

Praying - and praying too that justice is served so that this doc cannot abuse his position in the future. I'd be pretty mad - but will pray that God gives you the grace and wisdom to know if/what else you need to do. Plus that the new doc finds a solution and is able to help your dd.

Hi Everyone,
Emily is doing better. I took her back on Friday for more tests but they still haven't figured out what has been causing the pain and vomiting. She is finally feeling better.
I went to the hospital today to get a copy of the "policy" but the director wasn't sure if she was allowed to give that out so she is checking. I did record the entire conversation and the patient liason confirmed that it is hospital policy to call CPS if a parent refuses *any* test or treatment for a minor, which is not only a violation of their written patient policy but also of state and federal law. We have the right to refuse any test or treatment and the ONLY time CPS should be involved is if there are extreme circumstances where a parent is refusing a life-saving treatment or taking them out of the hospital under life threatening circumstances.
I am going to the news people tomorrow. I also made a complete report to the medical oversight board for the state and he told me that it is also a federal violation so he is getting them involved too. He totally agreed with everything I said and couldn't believe the audacity of the doctor or the hospital. This is a brand spanking new hospital that just opened on May 1st, 2007.
Please pray that only good things come of all of this. Thank you!
Blessings,
Krisann

Good for you. I'm definitely praying.
This is a classic example of an institution deciding to usurp parental rights and legal rights. I can't figure out why this happens over and over again, but I am glad you've decided to follow up on this ridiculous situation.
Most importantly, I'm so, so happy that Emily is feeling better. Imagine calling CPS instead of discovering the cause of a child's illness...how totally silly.
