Dear Amy,
I've had those flashing light spots on & off during all of my pregnancies. My midwife thinks it hormone related. The Dr. wasn't concerned either.
I will keep on praying for you!

I'm praying for you, Amy.
With my last pregnancy, I had contractions from 20 weeks or so. Enough to worry me, not enough to worry the OB. I was certain the babe would come early (but she ended up being a c-section at almost 38 weeks bc of pre-e)
Drink lots, rest as much as you can, and don't ignore the contractions. My doc felt I made it through as well as I did bc I pretty much restricted myself throughout my pregnancy. We didn't go out much & I didn't get much done during this last pregnancy, but this little newborn nestled on my chest was worth it!

Dearest Amy, I will up the prayers for you.
I'm going to harp on the hypoglycemia thing...my blood sugar goes wacko every luteal phase and/or pregnancy, from Day 1. And that can create all the symptoms you are referring to, including the mood swings, the down swings, depression symptoms....

I'm the same way Jenn (hypoglycemic when hormones get "moving" -especially when pg or breastfeeding) - but I didn't realize it could cause all those sympotms. Mood swings? Depression? If this is the answer, I have one question: How in the world am I supposed to get enough protein when I shouldn't be eating too many eggs/dairy/nuts/fish?? I can only stomach so much meat when pg. Sigh, it is never easy, is it??
Thank you again everyone for your prayers. I almost posted again last night because I was having a major breakdown, but I'm glad I didn't because it passed (and dh came home from a trip which always helps at least temporarily ).

Keeping you in my prayers, Amy. As far as the protein goes, you might try supplements. I guess whey is the supplement of choice, but I'm leery of adding too much dairy to my diet as my babies all seem to be sensitive to it. I use a soy protein supplement once a day that supplies 20 g of protein, and I drink it in the morning. Otherwise I'm starving about 30 minutes after I eat. Bolthouse farms also makes a chai protein drink that's pretty good; it's soy, too.

Soy and wheat seem to be where you need to go with the protein. Do you have to avoid these things? I'm eating the same kind of diet I did with my first pregnancy. I know my son developed food allergies, but I really don't want DIFFERENT allergies because I'm avoiding his foods...if that makes any sense. For dinner I avoid his allergens, but I am eating dairy (yuck) and eggs regularly, and some whole wheat.
Some local ladies keep talking about a protein drink they used...one mom has a son who had to avoid this laundry list of foods, so she turned to a shake for her pregnancy...actually a weight loss, but it's a protein shake. Reliv? It's soy protein.
Really, you'll hate my answer, but you should be constantly grazing. I don't think you should let an hour pass without some kind of food. It's work, but I'm thinking veggies and dip, hummus and whole wheat tortilla, bean dip with some carb, apple and cheese, cottage cheese and fruit, plain yogurt, tortilla roll-ups. Just small amounts, really small, but often. Keep a timer going. That way you keep your blood sugar at an even keel.
And wipe out all potatoes, white sugar, and white flour from your diet....at least until you feel better.
I hate doing it, because I feel like I'm obsessing about food, but it does work for me. I need to do it myself now, as I'm getting these mood swings and headaches again.

I'm so sorry to read that everything's so difficult, Amy.
I'm praying.
In haste, but on the food front, how about quinoa and similar?
