If you use your 40% off coupon at Michael's, it's about $78.

Blick's has it for $78, with 10% off right now. Plus shipping - $12
HTH,

I've always wanted a laminator! My DH teases that he is afraid to stand still for too long around me. I laminate so many things!

We have a church/school supply store that has self-service laminators & they charge $.25/linear foot. I think this is a great deal, as their machines are 24" wide.

So for those of you with personal laminators, would you think that being able to use the sticky-back lamination and the magnetic-back lamination be worth investing in one?

Last night, I used the Xyron's permanent adhesive cartridge for the first time, to stick sheets of card stock to felt (so that our new movable alphabet can be used on a felt board). It worked very well! As someone who usually makes a horrible mess when using glue , I think this is a wonderful invention.

As soon as I'm done cutting apart the movable alphabet letters, I'm going to make the "touch boards" by running some strips of sandpaper through the adhesive cartridge, then sticking them to wooden plaques. I tried making the boards a while back, using wood glue, and it was a disaster.... the glue soaked through the sandpaper, made bubbles, oozed around the edges, etc.

I used to think the Xyron was a silly doo-dad for wimps who couldn't be bothered to do things the old-fashioned way... but I guess I was wrong. Or else I'm a wimp myself!

BTW, although I've laminated all my 3-part cards, I decided to leave the movable alphabet unlaminated. The card stock feels much nicer without the coating on it, and, for such an important material, I'd like to try and maximize the tactile and aesthetic appeal. (The felt backing also helps with this aspect, and makes it much easier to get the individual letter cards out of the box.) But I'm glad I can re-print any letters that get damaged.

I just got mine at JoAnne's for %40 making it $71! No coupon :) So it comes out cheaper than the online one.

My daughter loves it to make her own stickers. We are actually designing our own for her to sell at our homeschooling conference. She's so exicited.

And yes it is great to have 3 pages of this discusion. I wonder how long we could make it?

Okay, here's a question that hasn't been asked yet:

Is there any way to recycle the empty Xyron cartridges?

Or, better yet... has anyone used them to make a Montessori material?

Where did you find the Xyron?

Well after extensive shopping around and comparing prices, shipping, and taxes I ended up buying the machine and double laminate cartridge from Complete Business Systems, then I bought the other cartridges Meredith recommended from Amazon.com with a couple other goodies. The cartridges were cheaper there....

Leslie, I'm so glad you decided on it, have a blast and tell your dc and dh to lock up anything they don't want laminated

Well, I'm beginning to think that I'm a big wimp because mine is still in the box. I'm afraid of taking it out and actually having to learn to use it.

Okay, this is a lame post. I'm taking it out today.

I was up WAY past the time I wanted to be last night laminating some Beach Bingo cards for the boys to play today. It was a compulsion - I felt the laminator calling my name - I was too weak to ignore its siren call...

Ok, Ladies,

I would love the Xyron 900, but I think it is a bit high for my budget right now. Is there a less expensive laminator that does a good job?

Marjorie, I'm using a Duck brand laminator that I found on clearance at Walmart for $15. I also bought the box of 200 laminating pouches at Sam's Club for ~$19. So far, this has not been too much of an investment, and the laminator has worked great for me!

I am impressed by the sound of the Xyron 900. Would anyone who has one mind looking at this link & telling me if it looks like the right one? :

Xyron 900

They are calling it a sticker machine but I am guessing that with the right cartridge it's the laminator lots of you are using.

I second the Duck brand at Walmart for under $20, and get the pouches at Sams. The Xyron sounds cool though, with the sticker and magnet capacity! I have been very happy with my Duck though, it was affordable and laminates great. I was worried that since it was so cheap it wouldn't do a good job and that the laminate would come apart when I cut out the cards but that hasn't happened at all. However, after I run it into the ground by laminating 5 million sheets of 3-part cards I will look into the Xyron that everyone is raving about.

Yes, this is exactly the one I have. There are several cartridges all around $32.95(USD) and depending on where you can find the laminator, I paid about $129(USD) for mine. You want the 50' double-sided laminating cartridge and you're all set!

And you thought the discussion was over? Well, thought I'd pass on a coupon on Free Laminating for Teachers

I'm going to take advantage of it b/c then I won't use up my film for the Xyron.
