We ended up ditching our routine to go to the doctor, where I found out that the babies both had STREP. 
No fevers, no runny noses, no nothing that would have clued me into the fact that they were actually sick with strep (of all things). The doctor also felt that the rash was unrelated and probably a reaction to the sunscreen I'd been using, since my 4 yo tested negative for strep but still had the rash. I guess it's weird to be thankful for a rash, but how else would I have known to bring the babies to the doctor?
