We consolidate outings as much as possible and, when dh is in town, I have him do as much as possible in his itty bitty gas saving car instead of taking the van out.
It really hasn't affected us too badly so far because this is what we've always done anyhow. As another posters said, it also saves a great deal of TIME, which I find to be of even higher value around my house.
However, I have noticed that even in season foods that we used to be able to afford are getting harder to afford because of the cost fo transporting them. Things that are local are up too. Eating healthy is becoming even more cost prohibitive.

I think we are up to $3.03. I say think because I don't leave the house except for baseball and church. I don't pass a station going to baseball. When I do fill up, I go to Costco and usually save at least $.10/gallon.
Dh does most of the shopping. He just bought a used Hybrid because we could not afford for him to drive his pick-up truck to work anymore. Even with the car payment, he is spending much less than before. He stops at the store on the way home.
I didn't run around much before anyway, but now things like the library have to wait until I am already heading that way. It doesn't help that we are at least 20 minutes from most places we usually go.
I have noticed the price of food going up, too. It is really cutting into our already stretched budget. Ugh.

This is good for me to know come June. Thanks, Jen.
SW Louisiana is at $3.15. Further north (this past weekend) we found gas for $2.99.

Gas here (SE NC) was $3.10ish the last time I was out and near a station.
I've always tried to consolidate trips. We're a one-car family (with DHs deployments, it hasn't made sense for us to have a vehicle just for him, since all it would do is sit here 75% of the time)...so DH drives to work and back every day (about 12 miles each way), and then any driving I have to do...which lately has been to the hospital and back, which is literally a 3 minute trip, with no lights, at off-peak hours (9pm IS off peak, lol).
Once DH is gone, though, we'll be staying home plenty anyway. I try to keep my outings minimal anyway--one or two "big shopping" days a month, and the rest of the time, it's just refilling the perishables like milk and eggs...
I do have a couple of big trips planned later in the year--at least one, to SC, to my sister's wedding...ugh. Dreading that drive....and its not all that far, except as the lone adult with five dc age 7 and under, lol....
Oh, it's costing us a good $50 to fill up our Odyssey. Gas on post isn't cheaper--or not much more, maybe a cent or two--than off post. And the closest Sams/Walmart with a gas station is out of the way for my errand running, 99% of the time...sigh. I still try to hit the cheaper stations, but you know how that is...

We have road trips up and down the east coast planned for this summer. We start with Va. Beach this weekend and then Denver (we'll fly), and then Maine (if Patrick wins in Va. Beach), and then Florida and then NY. I am surprised reading this thread that the price of gas in places where I assumed the cost of living to be less is actually higher than it is here. It was 3.11 in Loudoun County on Sunday...

I was at the store today and passed by the freezer section where our favorite Cajun sausage is stored. I remember the day it was $6.50 a box (and we were too poor to afford that). Right when I could afford it, it crept up to $7.99 and $8.99 a box.
Today the price tag read $10.99. I know the reason is the gas hike. I'm back to being too poor to afford it.
I saw Citgo had gas for $3.05 today and I was excited about it. Then mad that I was excited.

I'm thinking of all of roadsters (especially Chari's cross country trip), and remembering the stats we heard on the radio over the weekend. People say they will cut back on other things...like cheaper hotel rooms...but will not quit their traveling.
I know from experience with my father-in-law that when a vehicle is taken away one's freedom is snatched out from under them like an inner tube wipe-out on the Chattahoochee River.
I'm angered that the oil companies suppose they can take advantage of our freedom in this manner. All because of greed.
