The nurse just called. Apparently, I'm being invited to do a sleep over up there as a prelude to John coming home...probably tomorrow--him coming home, I mean. I'll be sleeping up there at the hospital tonight. It should be interesting, as they don't have a room available except for the breastfeeding/pumping room there in the NICU. The room set aside for the rooming ins is booked, as are all of the rooms in the wards where they normally put overflow. So I get to sleep in a recliner...lol. Hopefully I will get a nap in this afternoon, so that I can go into it well rested.
Please pray for David, though, ladies, as apparently he has had some slight apneaic episodes when he's been spitting up (when it comes out his mouth and his nose). Kind of scary for me. But I am hoping he'll be ok....he had one on the 10th, and another on the 13th...he needs to make it several days between episodes before they will consider sending David home...
And if you can pray that my cough will get better. DH is going to be getting me some meds, so hopefully they will work fast...
Rachel

Congratulations Rachel - and I am so happy that the boys are a good size and are doing well. My boys (32 week preemies) were in the hospital for 5 and 6 weeks - but they were much smaller and had to get to 4lbs prior to being able to come home. One of my guys came home on an apnea monitor - which once I got used to I felt happy to have - but he only had it for a couple of months. Good luck with the nursing - stick with it and I am sure you will be tandem nursing before long. I pumped for 6 weeks - and then the neonatologists talked me into putting the boys on some preemie formula and said they were lactose intolerant and advised me to stop nursing. I really wish that I had fought back and insisted on nursing.
It is almost easier to have one back before the other - but it does break your heart to leave one in the NICU.
I will be praying for all of you.

Well, it turns out I don't have one of them home....
John had an apneaic episode this morning after I left the hospital--his circumcision had been pushed back to noon....and with a four hour mandatory wait after that, well, I came on home to rest...well, while I was gone, he spit up and couldn't swallow it all/spit it out...so it caused his heart rate/respiration....caused alarms to go off, etc. So he is in for at least a few more days, and probably closer to a week....
David will likely be home on Sunday if he doesn't have any more episodes...John a week from today...
All in all though, we had a good night. He slept well, ate well, and overall was wonderful...so terribly disappointing to have him NOT home with us tonight...
but for the best, just in case....
Please pray for all of us. It's been a rough afternoon.
Rachel

Rachel -
Praying for you all. These *ups and downs* are exhausting, both physically and emotionally. Praying for smoother sailing, for the apnea to stop, and for your cough to get better.
Peace,
Nancy
