Okay
I have measured the outside of our house and it is 32ft by 37ft. (We measure by metres here so this was different ) so the area is 1182 sq ft.
Joann, I really fail to see how you can fit into a house a little smaller than ours with 10 children I notice that you have older dc than mine too, my oldest is 13. My mind boggles.
Our main room which is where all our living occurs only takes me eight steps long and 7 across. Yours must be smaller again? This room is like our dining, schoolroom, loungeroom and study combined.
Do you have just three bedrooms? Love to know more

We do have three bedrooms. 4 ds in one. 4 dd in another. Dh, myself and two babies in another. We are getting ready for church and a cousin's first communion right now, so I am taking pictures. Cay asked if I could post "getting ready for church in 'the Little House'" and I am also taking some pictures of the bedrooms and house in general.
I will try to get them on the blog soon (probably tonight)

I am bumping this!
We definitely don't live in a small house for six people- I think is is 1600 sq. feet or somewhere around there. But we are finding the bedrooms a bear! We have our dd in one small one, the two boys (10 and 13) in a good sized one, and ds18 in a walk in closet (57 inches by 100 inches) with a big window. I have combed the internet constantly trying to figure out how to divide the rooms etc. to give my ds18 more room. The loft bed seemed like the best idea but then he will have to scooch beside it to use the desk underneath (he is 6 feet tall). He is more than happy to sleep with his siblings and use his 'room' as a space for his chainmail (which he has a job making) and studying, but I feel badly for him. Don't know why!

Small house here.. we have 3 bedrooms, one largish one, one medium and one small.
DH and I took the smallest room. Set up the largest for the 6 boys and put the 4 girls into the medium room.
I know it doesn't work for everyone to give up the "Master Bedroom" but if it does it can give a larger room to a larger group than just mom and dad.

Our boys are in the biggest room. We are in the second largest and dd is in the small room (with more stuff than is probably safe!).
I guess I am wondering if anyone has a child who is now an adult still sharing with their siblings.

Yes, that would be me. I have five boys and five girls. My almost 19 y.o. son shares a room with his four younger brothers. He will be off to college in the fall, but he has tolerated and shared and sacrificed so sweetly for all his life. We will miss him desperately when he goes. Great, now I'm teary again. Anyhow, we have done it and our son survived and he may even have picked up some character building skills along the way....blessings to you all!

We have a much older dd in with 3 much younger sisters, and it works. We only made 3 bedrooms in our house we're building, as we plan on all siblings sharing rooms. They learn to deal with each other. I was much older than my younger siblings, and if they had been of the same gender, I wouldn't have minded sharing a room with them at all. I find that when siblings get along relatively well, at least, that sharing a room fosters bonding.

In Texas, everything is bigger so anyone wanting a great priced house with lots of sq. footage could come here. Of course in our area it's lots of prairie, no rolling hills, and HOT, HOT, HOT!

Thank-you folks! That is helpful. I think we may have found a good solution by dividing one of the rooms up with one of those 'expedit' shelves from Ikea and a loft bed!
