The woman who sent the original prayer request is out of town but has emailed Fr. Deprey (sp?) for an update.
I hope to know more tonight.

No, no, no, Maria. I left off the "y" this AM. It's Deprey. Sorry. My sons served Mass with him today---you'd think I'd spell his name correctly!
I also have no more info. ??????

I was hoping to hear something but I haven't.
Sorry.
We'll be gone all day, too.

This is the email I just received:
Dear families,
Thank-you for your prayers for Luke Duvall, who was shot in the head
on Saturday. I just spoke with Father Walton of Sacred Heart, and
Luke's condition is improving. He is opening his eyes now, can
squeeze your hand, and has sensation in his feet. It will be a
long road to recovery, however.
I am not privy to any motives behind the shooting, and the family
would rather not talk about it at this time. Luke is now in Fr.
Walton's care. All they request are your continued prayers. Fr.
Walton, on behalf of the Duval family, would like to thank-you all
for your prayers.
Fr. Erik Deprey

Since all my guys here are baseball players, this young man has been on my mind and I googled again to find this article. This is the same young man, correct? It says he suffered a brain hemorrhage - which though tragic, seems easier to understand than a senseless shooting. Anyone know why it was reported as a shooting? Just checking to see what the Sacramento folks know. We're continuing to pray for his recovery which from accounts in this article look promising.

Mary,
I read this last night so I emailed the lady here locally who sent me the prayer request.
This morning, I received this from her:
"Dear Tammy,
Thank-you very much for the update. I'm totally shocked about the
details of his case. I was told that he was shot in the head.
Perhaps, with all the confusion at the hospital and the lack of info
as to what was wrong with them, that the symptoms indicated a 'shot
in the head' when it was really something else. I'm totally baffled
by this, but glad to see that he's improving a bit.
Fr. Deprey"
I am sorry for passing on wrong information.
