Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a minute to update on little Trey. His news is good. He made it through his first bone marrow transplant (BMT) in September and is recovering. His second BMT is coming up. Here is the latest update from Trey's Dad:

"Trey will be admitted for his 2nd BMT 11/12/07. It will most likely be a 30 day stay. He is doing very well. We have let him go outside some over the last few days. He has been cooped up so much.
I wake up in the middle of the night a lot and think about how far he has come. When he was in for his 1st admission, his tumor was large and he was very sick. Because the cancer was growing so rapidly in his bone marrow, his bones were virtually pressurized. When the doctors extracted some bone marrow from his hips, the fluid almost blasted out of the bones during the process. This caused a very large bruises in his lower back. He could barely walk. The port was then implanted into his chest. Because his platelett counts were low, the port insertion also caused a huge bruise to form. He was in so much pain and misery. One night during that stay, at about 3 in the morning, he asked Stacy, "Momma, what is heaven like?"
At that time, I thought he was surely being called Home, and we almost certainly would not reach the point where we now are.
The BMT that lies ahead is going to be very difficult, but we are so hopeful that he is going to win this long fight with his cancer.
When he has recovered from the BMT, he will have about 2 weeks of radiation and an extended period of follow-up treatments. He will be vulnerable to infection throughout all of this.
We ask you all to keep him in your prayers, that he make it through this BMT and that the subsequent treatments move him into remission."

Thank you all in advance for continuing to hold Trey and his family in your prayers...it is a miracle that he has made it this far; he continues to beat the odds.

Dear Friends,

Trey is not doing well. His parents are very worried. I just got off the phone with his father and they are concerned. He had to have an unexpected surgery when they found a spot in a routine scan. It came at the worst possible time as Trey had just finished his final bone marrow transplant and was very weak. The surgery was very invasive and they did fine more neuroblastoma.

Trey hasn't been able to eat much; his stomach has shrunk and now when he is hungry, he can't keep much down.   

One light during all these months (it will be a year since the diagnosis of Stage IV cancer for Trey) has been Trey's good attitude and happy and joyful spirit amidst all his suffering. This is not the case right now as he is acting depressed, sad and lethargic.    

They are off to the hospital this morning to assess his condition and see about IV feeding. Storm heaven for him, will you?
