Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

1) Are your mothers Catholic (and raised in a practicing Catholic family)?

My mom converted from the Methodist faith when she married my dad. She has one sister. My grandma had both of them before she turned 20 years old - and then stopped! (I have never asked)
As a child my mom learned in Sunday school that the Catholics are evil and out to conquer the world! YIKES! Needless to say, her parents were not thrilled with my dad (and the fact that she was prego with me), but they got over it real fast and never criticized our faith once (as far as I know).

2) Were they open to life and a large family themselves?
My dad always wanted 10 kids, but after the 6th child within 8 years my mom had a tubal done. She was very frustrated and resentful of my dad during this time of their marraige. Dad worked very hard and with long hours and business trips...They now have 16 grandchildren...and more could come as the youngest will probably marry soon and he definitely wants children.

3) Were they divorced? Remarried?
They have been married close to 45 years!

My mom was raised Catholic and is actively practicing her faith and sharing it with her 38 grandchildren! Her holy hours that she offers up each week for all of us are what sustain me!

2) My parents were always open to life and a large family. There were six of us. I am the oldest.

3) My father died when I was seventeen following bypass surgery. My mom remarried when I was 24. My step-dad has two sons. My half sister, Megan, was born three months after my first was born! My mom and I were pregnant at the same time! Interesting comments abounded at the time, as you can impagine! Today Meg is 19 and I am 43. It is wonderful having a sister so young.
