You can use Quicken to track credit card purchases. My dh set it up so that when you make a payment to the credit card, it goes to a "transfer account." In this credit card account, you can enter in all of your credit card receipts, categorizing them as you go. This is great for seeing where all those charges are going to.

One problem--you have to actually spend the time the enter in these charges. Dh hates the Walmart charges because I have to take the time to go over each receipt and break it down into categories. Of course, it helps not to wait six months to go over these.

When I go to Walmart I separate my items into different categories at checkout: food, household, clothing, etc. I then either ask for a subtotal after each category or even pay separately for each category.

This is funny. I usually enter the walmart receipts around here. My dh can never figure them out.
